The more he posts, the more I see Scampy. One gets quite nostalgic for the days of him, Moog and Blake.

MM of course is not a female.

^I'll take part of that as a compliment, and yes I am a female, but grew up around males and was a tomboy most of my life. Most of my friends are still male, so perhaps that is what is tricking you.

I reached out to the recruiter last night, and haven't heard back yet, perhaps tonight or tomorrow. Even if I get the job, I'm not sure I can feasibly afford to go. I'll need start up funds, at least three month's of rent up front.

That's what credit cards are for.

    Speculate to accumulate.

If you really don't have 3 months worth of funding to sustain yourself then i personally wouldn't risk the relocation because something always crops up.

A sad indictment, and a bit of a Uriah Heap attitude to modern finance. Globetrottting adventurism, with no back up funds? No pension plan? A failure to plan is just planning to fail. Exactly what I do every month.

If you are hired they should be paying for your flight to KL.

Malaysia isn’t that hard to get set up. Find an area you want to live in and check for signs that say “Untuk Disewa.” This means for rent. Don’t feel shy about approaching neighbours to ask about the going rent in the neighbourhood and what kind of person the landlord is. You’ll find many people are happy to give you a good ballpark figure and relish the chance to gossip about the landlord.

After five years+ of working in Canada, if you don't have three months rent saved then something's gone wrong.

Agree. With CAD$5,000, that’s nearly RM17,450. That’s plenty as long as you don’t go crazy.

Being positive you could ask the employer for an advance on wages, it'll indicate how keen they are to hire you.

    Flights at a minimum.

Quality accommodation should also be provided on arrival, which can be anything between 2 and 4 weeks, with a further allowance for meals if cooking facilities aren't available on site (e.g. a hotel that only provides breakfast). There might also be some kind of settling-in allowance, but there will definitely be the opportunity to take an advance on salary if needed.

She was never moving to Malaysia.

Rare to get it in advance, common to get it reimbursed after arrival.

But how f*cking sad is this. Not even enough tucked away for a ticket and a few months rent. Jesus.

I have been doing a lot of research about the place and also reading about Malaysia in general. It looks to be quite a clean place with a variety of cuisine (Indian, Malay, Chinese), and friendly locals. I would be a bit south (20 mins) outside of KL, but I read that the subway goes out there. I read that the cost of living is extremely cheap at least compared to the west.

Anyone with any experience or information to share would be appreciated. I'll know more about the job in the near future once I speak to the school. It looks like the pay would be about 3000-4000 CAD a month and they also give a housing allowance among other benefits.

    Cheers
Bitch, have you thought about going steady? I am always looking for mid range earners that can sponsor my lifestyle.

Also, I fancy KL - the food is great. Imagine all the buffets we could go together.

With a decent teaching job it's more common for them to pay for the flight, ie buy the ticket.

Flight, moving allowance and accomodation sorted after a brief stay in a hotel. Seems well dodgy if none of that's being offered.

Thanks, and I am ignoring all the rude comments on this thread, also have Cy on ignore as I don't need negative, rude comments when this isn't a joke to me.

So, I heard back from the recruiter this morning when I got up. He said good news, that the principal had asked for references and all my documentation which I had already sent to the recruiter. He then said I would probably have an offer early next week. And yes, they do pay flights either up front or reimbursement. They also give me two weeks in a five star hotel when I arrive. They have a housing agent that takes me around to pick a place. And they do offer a settling in allowance, which I am not positive but think it is around 1500$ CAD. I also heard, that they may offer a loan as well and take that off my paycheck over six months. So, I'll wait to hear an offer and then ask a lot of questions. I also know that they hire in July as well, so I asked that if I can't go for some reason in Jan. will they be hiring in July as well?

Thanks Joe, i'll keep that in mind. And I agree, I want to go with some sort of funds, and also see what they offer for settling in allowance and a possible loan.
