Many a shipwreck off point danger in days of yore. Looks like a pirate ship passing by by the cut o'her jib. Looks ripe to splice her mainbrace.

Today I went to the train station to pick up a lady from Fujian Province. She got the train down from Brisbane which was quite brave with no English language skills on a holiday visa
Attachment 114492
Fujian fillies are like No.9 buses. You wait a lifetime and then 2 come along at once. The geese were enthused by FF2's attention and I suggested grabbing one for the BBQ
Attachment 114493
She admired the bike collection and attempted to climb on the low-rider beach-cruiser but it was a bit of a stretch at 5'0.
Attachment 114494
Fujian ladies always bring tea.
Her English is not hilariously bad, it is non-existent. All communication with her was by her talking into her translation app in Chinese and then playing the translation back to me.
Attachment 114495
I am getting a taste for this Wuyi Mountain brew and the little Chinese cup is a cultural gift, she advised via auto-translation.
I was able to make myself mostly understood via sign language.
Attachment 114496
She was all over my links when we moved on to the Aussie cultural main course. I was relegated to back-seat driver.
Attachment 114497
She requested a glass of wine once she felt settled so I was glad to be able to share my very favourite Rose bubbles with her.
Attachment 114498
The 1 day past full moon rose over the horizon as the embers settled to light up a patchwork of clouds

And our first cultural exchange without subtitles was concluded.

No pics of the melon but looks like Fujian filly has a good chassis.
Poster of the Millennium. :yup:
Definitely a contrast in physiques between the white and black fellas.
I'd have to go for Winston on the left. Not convinced that's a putter.
Nice Golf course DW. After a good day of golf, the club house after is quite relaxing. :)

^Hope your wife is doing well BB. Medical care in Seoul is pretty high quality from what I understand.
^^^^Where is this Willy? I did not know you were a golfer.
The butcher birds were harassing FF2 after yesty's BBQ when I awoke, and disrupting her art creation. She is a talented sketch artist.

She won the confidence of the feathered mob, overcoming some initial hesitancy at the impatient tone they were displaying after being offered only crisps, while I was asleep, instead of their preferred hot-dogs

We took a promenade by the lake

What I'd do to still be living in Australia. :)
Local course. I’m a hacker.
I hit a 12 on the first. My first hit was a horrible duff and on so due blokes refused to allow me a mulligan, which is really not golf. Imagine they surprise when I parred the 2nd.
Today I rode my off-road motorbike up a mountain that overlooks the town of Luang Prabang (Laos) where I live. The reason for this journey was to try to find a location where I have line-of-sight to a geostationary ham radio satellite that is positioned over Africa. Due to the curvature of the Earth, the required antenna dish elevation angle is just 4 degrees, and at my home the nearby hills and mountains obscure my line of sight. So I checked Google Earth and identified this location as a possible spot to try to communicate via that satellite.
Next time, I need to bring my satellite dish, laptop and all the various radiocomms bits and bobs up the mountain on my motorbike :)
Note the crappy air quality, which is due to the stubble burning in the hills. I must have a word with these hilltribe folks...
Attachment 114562
Fukin dodgy geezer :). See you in Thailand soon.
I think you might be sailing close to the wind pursuing this kind of hobby in a repressive tinpot dictatorship Simon, but the best of luck to you.
I think you already got in some hot water with this in either Myanmar or Laos, I can't remember. But any coppers/security types are maybe not so smart in a backward backwater and could easily think you are up to something well nefarious.
Anyway we don't want to see you get banged up before these page-turning memoirs are penned and published!
The challenge of ham radio is to successfully operate from a tinpot dictatorship without being thrown in the clink...
In both Myanmar and Laos I always operate 100% legally, but of course the local plod has no clue about ham radio, weird antennas and a radio transmitter. I did get in hot water from this very house in Luang Prabang a few years ago, and I had lots of police raiding the house over the course of a few days. I think the worst that can happen is that they deport me :)

Anyway, today we visited the 'Jurassic Coast' in Dorset.
This is the world famous Lyme Regis, a renowned fossil hunting location.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...9&d=1721767443
Unfortunately I left my geological hammers in Korat so we had to wing it and just look for small fossil cephalopods that can be found amongst the pebbles on the beach. We were further frustrated by the vast amount of amateur grockles cluttering the beach, screaming kids and all, most of which wouldn't know an ammonite from an arsehole. They just wander about, smashing rocks on the ground and banging away with with cheap building hammers and are an embarrassment. I strongly believe that you shouldn't be allowed on this beach unless you hold a degree in Geology.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...0&d=1721767457
An experienced eye can spot fossilised ammonite death assemblages such as this.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...1&d=1721767472
These ammonites are from the Lower Lias, around 190 million years old. The fossil brachiopod I found last week at the top of Crook Peak in the Mendip Hills was contained in Carboniferous limestone, around 350 million years old, so approximately twice as old as these ammonites at Lyme Regis. In fact, that brachiopod fossil was already 160 million years old when these ammonites were swimming around.
It makes you think.
The daughter found this today... I didn't get much luck to be honest. The bastard tourists annoyed me and put me off.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...2&d=1721767494
Here's the daughter walking along the base of the cliffs at West Bay, to the east of Lime Regis. The cliffs are mainly sandstone (Bridport Sand Formation) that is younger than the geology at Lyme Regis, and for various reasons contain few fossils. The more resistant calcareous layers represent changes in conditions of a cyclic nature, probably warmer, lower energy and deeper water... and these beds represent many million years of time.
It makes you realise how insignificant we are in the scheme of things in terms of time... human's time on earth would be a few millimeters in the geological record represented by this cliff. Yet we have had such an impact in those few 'millimetres' of time.

Geology is what it's all about.
https://teakdoor.com/attachment.php?...4&d=1721767528
This professor was at Southampton Uni when I did my degree and is/was an expert on the geology at Lyme Regis. As with anything, you can go as detailed as you want. This could have been me in another life... I have some envy although I bet I have more enjoyable passport renewals.

I love the cosmic time epochs involved in this stuff.
It is awe-inspiring in the true sense of the word. In a similar way to star gazing.
I have a few polished ammonites but I might be in the market for a trilobite.
I am just rewatching David Attenborough's First Life from 2010 at the moment.
