The rain attracted an entourage of slugs which feasted on the soggy doritos and were strangely engrossing to watch if not quite as beguiling and romantic as the baby swans I had promised the good lady.

A strange and eerie light crept across swan lake as the sun tried to break through the rain towards dusk. I think that kind of light can only be called gloaming as in roamin in the gloamin.

But my fanny magnet batteries were suffering from water-logging. She stayed under the umbrella with me in the rain until it was almost so dark we could hardly see each other, but my vague mentions of the possibility of warming up by the BBQ firepit did not get any bites, so it was strike 2 for the new motor.
