    What you own, what you want to get, what you had. Post it here.

    In a different thread, the subject of motorcycles came up and it is just more appropriate to have a thread rather than carry on there.

    Anyway, Dirk posted this


    I've had 2. (Ducati's) Both impulse buys as it happens.

    Never again.

    Ever.
    They sure look sexy. That tubular swingarm on the red one is sure edgy. I like them both. But what was your experience with them ? Breakdowns ? Engines light always on ? What kind of breakdowns ? Or do they just run like shit ?

    I had a Yamaha R6 Raven. The first time I test rode an R6 and decided that is what I wanted was in Pattaya. I want to buy another one and relive 2009-2013

    That's a nice one. It is just changing over from aging look to vintage/classic. It is pretty much vintage now actually.

    It's common for the terms 'vintage' and 'classic' to be interchanged when describing an older motorcycle. And while they share similarities, the general consensus is that a classic motorbike is considered to be classic when it's between 20 and 30 years old

    The whole shitty package to be honest.

    Overpriced

    Temperamental and unreliable in the rain/when wet

    Looooong lead time for massively overpriced parts.

    Pretentious robbing up-their-own-arses service centres. Blatant liars.

    Italian

    And I forgot to add, they are fussy with different fuel types.

    How on earth can you get a 2006 Corvette for one of these?

    What parts did you need to replace as an example ?

    Overpriced and overpriced parts is a given for a Wop product. I'd like to stay away from the service centers but you probably bought new eh.

    I fuct around and got the thumb drive with pics of my bike and it turns out they were all resized tiny. But here they are

    Mine is actually better. Gold anodized forks. I added an extra 20 grand for the car

    25,000 baht to replace throttle bodies on the Monster S2R

    The rubber around the LCD screen of the Hypermotard instrument panel crumbled away and water got in. 40k baht for a replacement. Ducati Service shop told me 3 weeks. During that 3 weeks they done a service when I specifically told them I only wanted the panel changed as all fluids were new and it wasn't due a service. Then they charged me 7,500 for the service and told me the Instrument panel was going to take 9 months. I found one online and with import it still cost me 38k. I'd sold the bike before the work was done (at my expense) and had no choice to pay the service bill too.

    Wankers.

    I don't know anyone who has been happy with their Ducati.

    When Audi bought Ducati we expected solid German engineering on beautiful Italian bikes, but it just didn't happen.

    I was thinking about getting an R6 for the Mrs. The ER-6n was just a bit top heavy for her.

    Yeah that kinda sucks. Having to replace a throttle body is annoying.

    But the abuse seems to be part of aura of owning Italian exotics. It is a conversation maker. That's probably the main thing that gets talked about at the Ducati clubs.

    You must have known that going in but the abuse was still more than you expected eh. Why cant they hire some Jap executives and sort this shit out.


    I didn't put that many miles on my R6. But the engine light came on once. And all it was , was the flapper in the exhaust needed a drop of oil. That was it.

    Yet another farang motorcycle death in Pattaya. And.... it happened in a curve. These accidents involving tourists almost always happen in curves. Why ? Because ppl don't actually know how to ride. They think they do but don't. They dont know how to counter steer. They steer the wrong way , fight the lean and the bike goes the opposite direction that they want to.

    An eyewitness, Wirat Wiratchalap, shared his account of the incident, stating that he saw the man driving at high speed before losing control of his motorcycle on a curve.
    They fenagle their way through most of the time. As they gain confidence they probably start taking the curves a bit faster and thats when it happens. That is why there's always accidents on longish rides too. Someone gains a bit of confidence putting their way around the city. And then they think they are finally skilled enough to ride from town A to town B. Through a bunch of speed curves. If they crash and live, the riders almost always make up a story about how some Thai maniac did a hit and run on them.

    Was big into mortorcycles in the 60s and 70s. I did buy a motoscooter, Honda Forsa, here a couple years back but never used much so gave it to the son in law. Back in the day,

    My first which grew to 5 over next few years.
