Awesome Simon, she seems like an absolute beast and I am sure had seen many travels; shame she was on her last legs!
Glad to be back?

Back from where? I always seem to be travelling but Luang Prabang and the mountains of Laos are the places that I like the best. I will buy another Honda/Zhongshan/VietWin 150cc bike in the next few weeks and 'upgrade' it before my next mountain trip. Especially, I need to 'upgrade' myself with some back protection to try to minimise the thumping on my lower back (I fell off a horse yonks ago in another life and it compressed a couple of spine bones in my lower back, so riding a bike on bumpy roads should be a no-no, but I enjoy the mountain views to much to keep me off the bike!). I'll see if the pharmacy sells those compression back corsets (maybe just buy a corset...)
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
^fuck me sounds awful, horses can be dangerous, mate died when I was 14 trying to break one in. Got thrown back and broke his neck/ back.
I've been away from Teakdoor for a wee while, last time I read you were in Blackpool! I'll have to read back a little but hope you are all good and well now!
One should listen twice as much as one speaks
Ah yes, I was in romantic Blackpool 1 year ago for prostate cancer tests, nothing found, so back to Luang Prabang. As much as is possible, I'm trying to plan for the future as I get more and more decrepit... My trip to the UK convinced me that returning back to live in the UK was bottom of my list of options!

You need a 50+ year old MC like this, Backspin
Our trusty steed was lethal pulled to the left, nearly put us in a ditch a few times. You really had to steer hard right all the time.Violent head shake at all speeds and no brakes.
Time to get a new tyre for me scooter so off to the local shops, which are absolutely thronged with dozens of muddy flood scooters outside. No big rush so won't throw a hissyfit and demand to be seen to first, this time.
Of more concern is me Ninja 650 not starting a lot of the time.
Get the click sound, followed by nothing.
Turn it off and start again. Usually fires straight up on the second or third attempt.
Except for today.
Made three stops.
Each one needing more and more starting attempts.
Turn the key, wait for the fuel injector to load up, press starter. Click sound. Nothing.
Not exactly the kinda bike you can push somewhere, or the kind of bike that Somchai The Man That Could Afford A Motorbike Shop Sign At Some Point In The Past can work on.
So I don't want to get stranded somewhere.
The battery is around 18 months old.
Got home and hooked up the cheap Chinese trickle charger that cost 300 baht on Lazada, it immediately says 'FULL', I've got it charging anyway and will give it good 6 hours of charging.
No other issues.
Spark plugs?
Starter Motor?
My issue with dealerships here is that instead of diagnosing the issue, they will say it is XXX part, then you buy it and they fit it and that is their diagnosis test.
If it doesn't fix it they shrug their shoulders and name off YYY part and tell you to order that part.
What's the Solenoid and how do I get it back in?
This part?
https://www.lazada.co.th/products/bn...502d72b0w21Cnv
Seems rather generic. Is it normal for a solenoid to fit everything from 125cc single-cylinders to 1000cc inline 4s?
Any idea where and how it fits in a Ninja 650?
In the Lazada picture you see 2 screw connections, one is for a cable from the battery and the other is for a cable to the starter motor.
Follow one of those cables and you will find where it is mounted. When you've found it make sure that the 4-pin plug matches with the photo.
I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient, I will get to you shortly.
A few hours on the trickle charger and she's as bright as a button. Should never have doubted her, really.
The previous battery lasted around 3 years. This one is around 18 months old.
Fuxin' life in the tropics. Have a good mind to move to Tromso or some shiz.
Which clever fella said starter relay?
Was doing some pottering about, and was still struggling to start. So, off to me fave big bike shop just off the Super on the road to the train station.
A-hoy there, matey. New battery please.
Sure, 2100thb
Sweet.
Lemme check everything first.
Sure thing, Cap'n.
Battery's perfect, it's the starter relay.
Well shiver me timbers. How much and when?
Around 1200thb and pick her up in the morning.
Sure thing boss.
First time seeing or noticing at least, the BMW F900r. And immediately thought of me Crissy present.
Smaller, more compact and lighter than the Kawa six-fiddy. 895cc straight-twin. Looks perfectly nimble for pottering around the city, small and light for a bit of canyon-carving. Will check if there's a place to rent one for a few days before writing me letter to da.... Santa.
Though I don't like BMW bikes and I don't like their dealership here.
^ Either you don't ride a 650, or they've got very big windows.
Bugger
I don't ride a 650, no, but 2,100 baht still seems expensive for a motorbike battery in Thailand. Perhaps it was a genuine Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki battery he was going to sell you. But it does seem like an expensive shop. 30,000 baht for helmets? Probably better than my 300 baht helmet.
The last battery I bought for my Speed Triple was 2,500 baht.
The previous one lasted me over 4 years.
Had to fill the acid myself but it wasn’t a bother.
There you go then, Edmond. 2100 baht was a bargain.
I'll stick to my 125.
