Lol, the company who purchased my one-man-band company for a small fortune did the same thing >> shipping me and all the staff and directors off to a smart country retreat for team-building and MBTI tests....
some years ago, our company had this team-building seminar thingy wherein they hired external people to conduct/ facilitate the activity for us.
Unfortunately I missed those tests because I got pissed as a fart the evening before and fell out of bed the next day around midday, staggering into the meeting hall looking hungover and blearly-eyed. I don't think the company boss was too happy!!

MBTI tests don't have a lot of credibility - as mentioned its free and used by lazy HR people - cos most of them have no idea about people, teams and business.
(I wish hr could just go back to being payroll and personnel - get my pay right and on time and make sure my holiday leave is correct).
MBTI are easy to manipulate - you can pretty much work out what to answer to get the type you want.
After i graduated early 90s I worked in various NZ government departments, this was perhaps a 'peak for Myers-Briggs and there was a real obsession with it as if results could somehow change their world.
Someone else mentioned horoscopes, and imho many of these assessments, psychometrics, are not far removed from the debate on whether a Taurus will get on with a Pisces, especially if one were born in the Chinese year of the Rat and the other the year of the Bull.
But some still have faith in psychometrics and from my 'testing' when I went back for short contract work for NZ's Parliamentary Service in 2021 the hiring manager exclaimed my results were perfect as I was a 'warm humanitarian'. This may well be at odds with how friends view me. Better: I don't like people.
As one of the originalI've never been a fan - and have been dismayed/against employers who have used psychometrics, especially when it is used as their pre-interview screening process. Again, may as well ask their star sign.lazy HR people
For the record, my Myers-Briggs
Personality type: Mediator (INFP-T)
Traits: Introverted – 79%, Intuitive – 51%, Feeling – 51%, Prospecting – 57%, Turbulent – 68%
Role: Diplomat
Strategy: Constant Improvement
^interesting results. Prawnograph is also an INFP but we have very different numbers.
I can't remember the exact numbers, but for me it was: Introversion ~80%, Intuitive ~80%, Feeling ~85/, Prospecting ~65%, Assertive ~60%.
So @prawn and I are both "mediators" but for me, the feeling and intuitive aspects are more pronounced (and yes, for myself I agree that I am very F & N).
The Thinking vs Feeling functions refer to how we make decisions:
For thinkers: what are the problems to be solved, how do we get to the goal
For feelers: how are things valued (value judgement)
******
The Assertive vs Turbulent function refers to neuroticism & response to stressful situations whether highly affected (T) or lowly affected (A).

Whether one believes in Myers-Briggs, the Enneagram or the big 5, it's up to you. As I've said, this thread is just for fun.
I found it also interesting when someone compared songs from the Beatles: those written by Paul McCartney (a sensor) vs John Lennon (an intuitive), based on their lyrics.
Sensing vs Intuition - means of perception, how we view the world
Sensor: likes specifics, details, what you can sense (see, smell, touch, etc)
Intuitive - likes generalities, overviews, metaphors, abstract concepts, intuition is relied upon

Sensing vs Intuition (Paul vs John of Beatles)
Penny Lane (by Paul McCartney)
Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
Wet beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back in

Strawberry Fields (by John Lennon)
Let me take you down
'Cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever.
I have recently written some poems (tried to see if I could still do it) and now I've analyzed them to see if they're more of sensing or intuition, thinking vs feeling.
And yeah, even in my poems the words came out as more of intuition (metaphors) and feelings. Whether it was in English or Tagalog (my native tongue), the N & F functions came out. (Interesting too that I found it easier to write poems in English than in Tagalog.)
Now, if I could compose tunes, maybe I could be like Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran & make money from songs!![]()
I have been obliged to attend many of these type of seminars and courses, both in the military and civilian world.
In my opinion, it provides a snapshot in time, based on your experiences up to that point.
I was always challenged by being given more responsibility for people and higher value equipment to get the job done.
In both military and civilian life, I was always grateful for good quality engineers. I am much better with people than equipment.
It all comes down to your decision making. Let others believe they have the answers, and one of them will always produce for you, people or equipment. My decisions are based on the sum of my experiences and the trust invested in others.
I don’t mind who gets the credit for it. It’s the result that counts. Sometimes you have to do it yourself and accept the good or bad consequences of your decision or actions. We learn from success and from mistakes, provided you are happy to own both!

The most interesting and thought provoking post for some time. Cheers Katie.

I am an ISFP-A, an adventurer! Which is probably less interesting than it sounds.
Apparently I am an introvert and quite observant.
Storekeeper, Norton, and I all have the exact string of letters. Was anyone else’s the same?
