Is it a restaurant or a bar ?

Going to a bar to eat a meal does not sound inviting at all IMHO.

I guess whatever you do it depends on your target clientele.
If it's the bald headed british bogan that infests Buakao then a bar with cheap beer, cod and chips and a couple of whores who arent particular will suffice.
Otherwise something with a good selection of alcohol both cocktails and spirits. Maybe a local craft beer and preferably a nice draft beer. Comfortable bench seating a few cubicles if possible with comfortable tables and chairs plenty of plants around, some real quality food at reasonable (not cheap) prices that will attract couples. A couple of good looking waitresses, not for sale but with a decent outgoing personality, offering good table service. Oh, and keep out the bogans.
Ditch the pool table it attracts retards quicker than blowflies to a carcass.

    Good Luck LT

You have more energy than me

I knew I would be like John Cleese dealing with the public when my wife suggested a restaurant many years back

It's a different world from wholesale pies or International Bucket arbitrage, you actually have to deal with drunks, puke and cops from tie to time.
Of course in what sounds like a sports resort you can have staff and a bouncer to handle such

Hi So Thais gaging for a steak and kidney pie,. felt ripping Pool Players, incontinent swimmers , rowdy families, Katie's high heel lady cocktail slurpers , Bikers, Draft beer fans and Karaoke may appeal to different crowds/times of day, I guess you will find out. Cops will have to be squared.

Even when I like some of the great music vids I don't think I have ever not entered or left a bar because the music was to low, sufficient to hold a normal conversation, too loud I may not eve go in or walk in and not order and leave.

Of course if you goal is MORE a disco nightclub with added pies there may be a niche, PASTY CLUB springs to mind, with large sofas in shape of pasties and young ladies with assorted fillings on/ off her.

I am sure lil Ayes Pies are wonderful but if normal size few will eat more than one with salad /jackets/wedges/fries or 2-3 max alone, whereas even old toper like me can still do 6+ beers before moving onto spirits and most lads a dozen .

Don't need to actually use it but sure a urinal under the bar like Dorrigo NSW will earn some publicity on launch night.
I recall the bloke in Auckland who got on TV and hordes of protestors when he promised topless bar staff (They were all blokes!!!)

There are other ways to cut out the middlemen in the pies. net sales, a cart in a mall or off a vehicle, Good luck I am sure you will update us Beer O"Clock

I believe name TeaK Bore is already in use in C Mai

There's a Tool in Bucket dear Liza too log for business cards

With a few added herbs I like

I don't know what concept of restaurant or bar that Loytoy has in mind. Is it something like Cabbages & Condoms or like the restos that Tomcat likes to frequent? (which I think in general have good food & nice atmosphere, and I like his resto reviews). The ambiance of those kinds of restos is hugely different from a sports bar or a pub.

As a girl, I would also dress differently if it was dinner in a nice resto vs drinks at a sports bar/ pub. There are resto-bars, so that could work. I see some of my yuppie millenial friends posting in FB from bars, so a "hip" resto-bar could cater to the hi-so/ mid-so crowd.

If serving cocktails, don't forget the little umbrella as decor in the cocktail glass - makes it "instagrammable".

    Best of luck!

Not a restaurant/bar. But had I had a business plan i would probably not have started.

Thanks sincerely for your responses as every post has been read and positive and negative advice has been taken on board.

Re: Business plan it is still up in the air but the one confirmed service provided will be a retail shop selling my wife's ready made frozen foods and commodity products much the same as 7Eleven and there will be a rear coffee and cake sitting area that is open to the Mooban car park. At the shop's front entrance we are putting garden furniture which overlooks the Klong so people can stop and buy a coffee or water and watch the world go by.

From the front shop entrance you can park your car and walk up, or drive your motor bike up, a ramped path which leads to the rear half of the property to the tennis court where there is a secure parking area.

The main bar we are thinking about opening Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for live sports coverage, live music and special events such as weddings, birthday's and pre-arranged local team and or corporate meetings.

Of course we will need waitresses and we are offering free accommodation plus a salary but there will be no bar fines and the girls can do what they like in their own time. They can serve patrons in the front garden seating area every day and then in the main bar on open days.

Just what Pattaya needs, another quaint drinking spot. No offense intended, I'd be trying to come up with a more original idea, TBH. Not having run a business in Pattaya, so I don't know, but I'm guessing budget is more of a driving force for most there and I'm doubting you want a place catering to "most beers for a buck" crowd.

Best of luck, be sure to hire a good bouncer as well as waitstaff.

^ Thanks mate for your response.

I'm pretty sure that there is nothing in Pattaya the same as what we are planning.

Yes there are challenges and there is every chance the venture will fail but nothing gained, nothing ventured.

    1. Dining outside is better if it is clean and a centipede aint gonna run up my leg
    2. Not necessary but no bad thing if it does AND is kept in good working order
    3. If I can't have a conversation without being blasted by someone karaoking Hotel California then I'm outta there.
    4. No Pool - the connection between a few pints of beer down the throat and a few pints of piss into the pool is too strong.
    5. Decent beers and spirits should be the priority. Actually cocktails are OK - in fact mocktails are a good idea, cheap and means the ladies can have a couple of drinks before driving home the drunkards.

    1. It has been decided to delay the air conditioned area for dining and keep the whole area open. Alternatively the main kitchen is air conditioned and once the shop is finished we can move the freezers and put a few tables and chairs in there.

    2. Noted

    3. I will make sure the sound is always at an acceptable level and I will notify the clientele beforehand when the louder bands are playing.

    4. We will only open the pool during the day for mainly kids to swim and close it at 6.00pm. The pool is a nice feature and as mentioned we have put large fans directed over the pool water surface and it cools the surrounding areas where patrons will be sitting.

    5. Noted and thank you for your advice.

I guess we can have few Katoey's as security.

Actually the location is centrally placed between Beach Rd and Maprachan Lake with easy access to Motorway 7 .

If it was my bar then I would make it stand out from the rest.

Concentrate on a certain genre of music and decor that caters to the demographic of punters that will frequent your establishment.

^ If I had my way there would be pictures of the 60 and 70's Rock Stars but I must remain neutral and therefore am trying to create a loungeroom theme.

There is also a 28 metre long driveway that runs through the centre of the bar which I have to do something with. I made up a stainless steel frame mould which I used to cement a pattern tile on the first 8 metres where motor bikes can park under cover and I am thinking of using non-slip ceramic tiles on the rest. The band stage is raised and that will be tiled.
I should get an interior decorator in but the missus and daughters like want I am doing so I will continue in a neutral mode.

And thank you for your past help and advice.

Hang on, a driveway through the centre of the bar? Surely, that's a risk?

We had a cement mixer truck through there a few weeks ago so you have an idea how wide the driveway is and how high the roof is.

Of course it will not be used whilst the bar is open and contrary to your risk question it is easy to get ambulances, Fire Engines and other safety equipment into the bar .

Not to mention we can have a Miss Thailand float run through the bar.

In fact I just checked the area and if I could fit a Muay Thai boxing ring and it would fit perfectly and under cover with ceiling fans as well.

Ok, now I can answer your OP questions.

    Air con with outdoor terrace
Live band a must, no fucking karoke!
Simple menu but excellent quality. Establish a specialty which will draw folks. i.e, best chili burger in Thailand sort of thing.
No pool table or swimming pool.
No need for a bunch of exotic cocktails but like the food a couple of really good specialty cocktails with a good selection of beers.

Weekly quiz nights with cash prizes seem to be a big draw in pubs nowadays.

Btw have you got a catchy name for your new bar?

^^ Thanks Norts and dually noted.

^ I already have the best quizmaster in Pattaya set up and he also organizes Northern Soul nights.

I have a name already but want to keep it a secret until I register it.

As I recall already 3 or 4 well established venues in the area so likely not going to add value to your place. Plus as you know will draw folks who gamble and will end with cops giving you problems.

If it was me LT, I would first establish a profitable rock based lounge pub then later add things like pool, muay thai, etc.
