    ^Cool, did it work well?
I had never used it before, and decided to try it last night. I have an assignment due soon for a course I am taking and thought I'd punch in the assignment which was related to Special Education in the classroom. The answer was very good, but I won't use all of the answer, I may use parts of it. I want to make sure the answer looks like my style of writing and ideas.

I may decide not to use it as I am not one for cheating ... would it be cheating? If I had to correct an assignment from a student who used it, I don't know if I would be able to decipher whether it was from the AI or not.

Has your university given guidance or not? Will you cite or just pretend it's your writing?

No, they haven't given us guidance, and I won't write what the AI said, I may take an idea from it and do it my own.

My daughter just sent me something she is working on at the moment in school, more specifically her German class.

The brief was to write a three-minute speech, in German, on the socio-economic divide in Scotland . . . so she did her work and then thought it'd be interesting to see what chatgpt would come up with (no, she didn't and doesn't use this for her work as I know her level):

Aside from a few words that could have been replaces by more appropriate ones it is perfect.

    Verdict: Education is screwed.

or on the verge of a vast and long overdue improvement where technology does something useful rather than reinvent old ways of pushing content, or gets young people doing silly fucking dances 24/7.

where would captains kirk and Picard been without the trusty ships computer to call upon?

I don't get how there is a new educational dawn because one can 'produce' perfect written work on topics one knows sfa about.

Even if it's only *cough* 'getting some ideas' as MM plans.

On the upside, it should allow more time for learning silly fucking dances.

I totally agree that education methods need updating, but to be fair I can see the difference in approaches with my two girls going to school in Oz, Singapore, Malaysia and NZ . . . things do change, but I don't believe chatgpt will facilitate change in a positive way - kids are generally lazy and will look for the easiest path and if the more studious kids see lazy-arsed kids getting better marks than them . . .

im agnostic about ChatGPT, and its v ery early stages for AI at mass levels.

but you cant put it back in its box. its out now, its not perfect, but it illustrates what is possible.

im glad your kids have a good experience, mine do too in a more traditional setting, most dont.

if kids can get the information they need, and learn to think critically about it and its interpretation, surely thats a better use of time than reading static text books no?

already companies are using it to rethink marketing and sales approaches, its really quite a clever and interesting thing, i wish i had more time to learn about it

I agree, this his would be fantastic, but maybe more for older kids who can actually take an idea and make it their own.

I'll say it again: Kids' brains have already been rewired by the internet so that they no longer store as much information since the web finds it for them.

This is going to make most of them even fucking dumber.

I disagree. Those fuckers know the lyrics from every viral tik too from the last 6months. And most of them don't even speak the language of the song.

Say what? Is this based on some evidence based data on children’s brains that you have been researching…or are you just spouting any old half informed pile of shit ‘guised as informed opinion?

    Again.

Yup, I'm not a fan of tiktok, never got into it, but seems to be a craze and not just for kids. My aunt posts tons of this shit on fb. I just think it is way too much. Another waste of time activity.

It can also make them more misinformed, which can be worse than just being dumb.

^It could also make them lazier.

A college professor in Canada is using ChatGPT in the classroom and thinks it can make his students think more critically.

His idea is if a student used ChatGPT on an assignment he would ask students to submit the transcript of the conversation with AI, and what they learned about the writing process.

Some colleges are inviting ChatGPT into the classroom to teach about ethics and plagiarism. Other educators are worried about bringing ChatGPT into the classroom.
