My generation had handles:
I'm guessing it's the same principle? I've never seen your version before.
Just bought a couple for the kids off Lazada.

Prank phone calls.
“Do you have Price Albert in a Can?”
“Is your refrigerator running?”
”Is Mr. Wall there?”
^^ Our model was made from glass! Hell on your wrists before you learned how to use them.
After sunset and late to get home after playing baseball. Sure you had to pedal harder but you knew your trusty bike light would work.
1980s portable music needed a physique
For teh lads in Brixton London bigger was better, I wondered where they all ended up.
There were 2 tape decks so you could copy and share, I have forgotton how cumbersome compared to just posting a link to a friend or Utube/Vimeo/Spotify etc.
Here's a big un, I never remember girls toting these 10kg boxes which needed loadsa batteries
I know they are still about but back in the day was the only way to instantly share an image without a fax.
For our Chitty style Gourmet's who feed from a barrel or bucket.
The promise
I have had some great food on trains in France Czechia Spain and Germany the UK reality was more like this
Brown Windsor (NO NOT MEGAN a sorta gravy like soup)
Steamed cabbage smelling veg with pies and of course a lost delicacy
Ever wondered why folks are larger?
London's first Chinese food , aside from Limehouse opium dens for Chinese, was Ley Ons Chop Suey House now sadly closed this Wardour street gen was an occasional treat on pay days. Since gone opp Las Vegas casino on Wardour Street much better than the local take aways but much much stiffer prices as a glitzy area.
Even Thai street food is generally better than 50s Ireland , UK little different outside the major cities, my ma was a great cook learnt from pros but once I went to school she returned to career in an era before Microwaves so the can opener span and Omelettes salads and other quick fixes, I didn't complain as had cooked lunch weekdays at college and Friday night Fish and Chips were the norm, Weekends Dad who wasn't rich but never saved always took us out to places that served liquor which in those days were up market eateries or hotels , few London cafes were licensed until this century. Having los a lung and survived teh Arakhan campaign against teh Japanese he lived each days if it was his last and could drink me under the table into his 70s drink for drink despite being about half my size!! Despite red nose and gout passed smiling in bed, god bless you dad for letting e have a taste of the finer things in life. I don't think he could cook an egg so when mum went off to nurse gran it was prime steak in a bun every meal !!
I digreess pleased so many excellent posts
As Katie wrote Spam was considered a US luxury in 1950s as was tinned Scokeye Salmon despite rural Ireland and Scotland brimming with the real thing
Winter Sundays were often Huge roast meals cooked from 10am to 2pm while men were in pub
TV or poss music until dusk then endless stream of gossipy Aunties as found in every Thai village now, perhaps why I feel so at home, despite the iPHONE and 4x4 village life with chickens wander thru legs of drunks in the village store is much the same.
I'd play sports or listen to LPs with friends and later gfs but Salmon sandwiches were on offer and possibly a Wagon Wheel or Home Made Fruit Cakes yum yum
In Wales pubs were closed all day and in Cornwall ltd Sunday hours, Dad was a member like many of clubs which were more "flexible" to the daily toper,
Like RSL in Oz England was full of clubs some themed, Snooker, Boxing, The Legion, Masonic, Buffaloes, Rotary and just plain drinking clubs like the fictional Winchester. For a small sub known faces could sup usually cheaper and vitally at all hours, in an era of v ltd opening hours but not quite as restrictive as the Oz swill.
THE WAGON WHEEL
It was actually quite a low quality biscuit but was huge and of course affordable

Similar lost "treats"
Were iced Gems which looked more appealing than the died sugar and hard biscuit base, no competition for the unmitigated luxury of Jaffa cake or ecstasy of the peak of confection the fondly remembered Kunzle Cakes
