Buzz Aldrin announces fourth marriage on his 93rd birthday

Retired US astronaut Buzz Aldrin, one of the first two people to walk on the Moon in 1969, has married for a fourth time, announcing the news on his 93rd birthday.
    Key points:

Aldrin first married in 1954 when was 24 years old
He said he and wife Anca Faur are "as excited as eloping teenagers"
Aldrin's last divorce in 2012 saw him pay his former wife 30 per cent of his ongoing earnings

Aldrin shared the news on Twitter, with photos of him and his bride, Anca Faur.

Dr Faur, 63, is a project manager at a science and chemical company.

In a tweet, Mr Aldrin said he and Dr Faur "are as excited as eloping teenagers" after becoming husband and wife in a "small private ceremony in Los Angeles".

"On my 93rd birthday & the day I will be honoured by Living Legends of Aviation I am pleased to announce that my longtime love Dr Anca Faur & I have tied the knot," he tweeted.

The first marriage of New Jersey-born Aldrin — to Joan Archer when he was 24 years old in 1954 — lasted 20 years and produced three children.

He remarried in December 1975 to Beverly Van Zile before divorcing less than three years later.

But his longest marriage — from 1988 to 2012 — was to Lois Driggs Cannon, but ended with an expensive divorce settlement a decade ago.

It reportedly cost Mr Aldrin an initial payout of $US240,000 ($345,000) followed by monthly payments of $US9,500 ($13,630) and a 30 per cent share of his future income.

As the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on Apollo 11, Aldrin and Neil Armstrong — the Apollo 11 mission commander — were the first two people to land on the Moon on July 21, 1969.

While Armstrong walked on the Moon first, Aldrin — a Presbyterian elder — became the first person to hold a religious ceremony when he privately took communion.

After his nuptials, Aldrin was flooded with messages of congratulations on social media, with some users incorporating humour in their well wishes.

One user said the couple were "keeping in each others' orbit", another described Aldrin as "forever young", while radio host Tom Harrington said he imagined the former astronaut was "over the moon" in happiness.

Anca gets the buzz, I hope we both look as good at their ages

A fourth marriage truly is the the triumph of hope over experience

A happy lunar trajectory and lots to rabbit about , must be hope for some of our bachelors here to go beyond speed "mating"

Silly old fool. It seems he's lost a lot of money over the years because he likes to marry.

She best stay off beaches. She'll end up in a plastic recycling bin I fear.

I understand Aldrin as an astronaut was a bit of a strange fish. He had a bit of a chip on his shoulder about Armstrong being the first. For example, from memory I don't think he took any photos of Armstrong on the moon. Aldrin's personal life also appears to be a bit messy too.

I think you are the strange fish. 93 year old astronaut who walked on the moon gets married and you are on his case. Get real.

    Somethin's still buzzin'.
Reminds me of the joke of the old bloke who marries a young woman. She decides to have separate bedrooms in the hotel because shes worried he may over exert himself. After she gets in bed he comes into her bedroom where they bang the bedposts for an hour and he leaves. An hour later he comes back and does the same thing and leaves again. An hour later he comes into her room and she says "I am amazed at your stamina this is the third time tonight," and
he replies, "You mean I was in here before?"

Wow, marriage at 93! They're both old enough to know what they're doing, so I wish them a happy life & marriage.

It would be vastly different if he's 63 and she's 33, but at this stage in their lives, then whatevah...

As to Buzz and his saltiness re: Neil Armstrong, well to the younger generations he's been immortalized as a Disney character (Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies), so his name will live on too.

God bless him. He is no dummy , he knows what he is doing.
FYI Not just a pretty face.
"Aldrin graduated third in the class of 1951 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, "
"a degree in mechanical engineering "
"Jet fighter pilot during the Korean War. He flew 66 combat missions and shot down two MiG-15 aircraft. "
" Doctor of Science degree in astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,"
"His doctoral thesis, Line-of-Sight Guidance Techniques for Manned Orbital Rendezvous, "
    "Astronaut "
It does not get better than that. A men's men, If anyone deserves to get married at 93, it's him IMO

    Yup.

The only surprising thing is that he isn't also marrying her two sisters.

She looks like she has more than enough ability to tease his shrivelled 93 year old manhood into lift off, but at 63 years old I hope he has got a pint of decent lube and possibly some vaginal deodorant in his bedside drawer to facilitate re entry.

At 93.....who cares. Go man go. Lot better than sitting in a barko lounger watching "Dancing with the Stars" or the other crap reality shows. I'd put as many miles on her as I could. At this point, money has no bearing on it.
