    Don Mueang vs Suvarnabhumi

I always just used BKK. But the results keep coming up as a clusterfuck. Is Don Mueang just a better bet these days ?

    Pretty simple.

Air Aisa is based at DMK, so nearly all flights arrive and depart from there. They opened a new route in June using BKK to KL, which means AA are literally charging you for the MNL - KL and then the KL - BKK price.

Depends on where you live in BKK as well. DM is almost all domestic with a few low cost carriers flying internationally. Swampy is home to most all long haul international carriers. For me 90% DMK, only BKK when flying to America. Helps that DMK is 10 minutes from my house.

AirAsia do CNX-BKK-CNX because I did it last week. Perfect times, too.

^if you get a Phil Airlines or Cebu Pacific flight from Manila, it will land in Swampy. If Air Asia, then in Don Mueang.

In previous years, Cebu Pacific had promos at the stroke of midnight (New Year) for all their flights (local & int'l).

The Miracle Lounge is better at DMK.

If you’ve never been to the Philippines I’ll warn you now, it’s a proper shithole slum and you’ll probably regret not spending the time elsewhere. 40 baht a beer tho.

    Sorry Katie.

^no problem, dirk. I'm not thin skinned.

Backspin's wife is a Filipina (but now based in Canada). He's been to PH, but I don't know how many times.

Hopefully enough times to know that plenty of places there are not 'shithole slums'.

I was there for 3 weeks in 2014. We all know that Thailand is the perfect mix between the 3rd and 1st world. The sense of abundance that Thailand is unmatched. The night markets are massive and loaded with anything you can think of. Go to Pattaya and there's lines and lines of any motorcycle you can think of. R6 , CBR1000 , Harley, whatever. Sit on the beach and you can get prawns, beer or ice cream delivered to your chair. I think my wife is gonna like it.

So yeah. That's why we are gonna hop over to Thailand.

The Philippines is developing though. A great time can still be had. Boracay had a Koh Samet feel to it. Makati is a clean city with high end living if thats what you want. The casino district is pretty hardcore in Manila. Thailand doesnt have that

Im looking for a hotel to stay at in BKK. D & D Inn on Khaosan road probably isn't going to cut it. I am 37 now ffs. Maybe just for 1 night for old times.

This Nouvo City hotel for 75 bucks a night looks good. 75 Canadian bucks i just noticed

BKK is about an hour and a bit from the Farm, DMK over 2 hours, so it's BKK when we can.

Plus the BTS connections are getting closer.

    I've been twice.

Manila is a dump, but plenty of places are nice enough. Banaue, Sagada, Bantayan etc.

^can't disagree (that Manila is a dump).

@backspin - there's BGC (Bonifacio Global City) which is a newer version of the Makati Business district. Condos, malls, clean streets, etc. That area was previously a military camp (Fort Bonifacio). It got privatized during the Ramos administration (1990s) and got developed by the usual suspects (rich families like the Ayalas/ Ayala Corporation).

I think our member TizMe lives in BGC.

Aside from Boracay, you may want to check out other islands like Coron, Palawan, Bohol, Cebu, Puerto Galera in Mindoro island, etc. The other places that Cyrille mentioned are good too.

I don't know how long your holidays will be, but if your wife grew up in PH then for sure she'll want to catch up with her family & friends.

She'll enjoy BKK, for sure. I don't know if she likes temples (there are lots). If she likes shopping at local markets, then Chatuchak Market is a must-do.

Yeah we are unlikely to spend a whole lot of days in BKK so will probably just hotel it

We're there for only four days, but it has everything we need for a longer term stay in the future.

I'll keep it in mind. We will fly out of BKK too so might want something on the backhaul.
