I'm Quizmaster tomorrow, I'll post my questions on my quiz thread after the event, incase anyone's spying on me.

Here's a teaser that may suit this thread:

I had 10 pence and a pound, I bought a horse and a hound; the horse cost a pound more than the hound, how much did I pay for the hound?
    Lang may yer lum reek...

Depends what you paid for the horse

Turn me on my side and I am everything. Cut me in half and I am nothing. What am I?

Sometimes, when you know the answer, it’s nice to wait for someone to fall into the trap and say the wrong one…

The timepiece with fewest number of moving parts is the sundial. Which time piece has the most number of moving parts?

I have never heard this one before, so this is a guess. Thinking laterally, I'd say an atomic clock.

^ It may well be but what is an atomic clock?

It's not the answer I was looking for, by the way.

    ^^Yeah, an hour glass, etc...

    Thousands of grains of sand!

Unless Shutree had it with the atomic clock? It may have been invented after the brainteaser? Or it may have been a random guess of course!

Actually I don't know and having read this I am not much the wiser.

An atomic clock is a clock that measures time by monitoring the resonant frequency of atoms. It is based on atoms having different energy levels. Electron states in an atom are associated with different energy levels, and in transitions between such states they interact with a very specific frequency of electromagnetic radiation. This phenomenon serves as the basis for the International System of Units' (SI) definition of a second:

The second, symbol s, is the SI unit of time. It is defined by taking the fixed numerical value of the caesium frequency, Δ ν C s, the unperturbed ground-state hyperfine transition frequency of the caesium 133 atom, to be 9192631770 when expressed in the unit Hz, which is equal to s−1.

    Atomic clock - Wikipedia

There's more at the website. It didn't help me. Right, it is time to go and shuffle around the garden, as if that will somehow turn it into Kew.

I cannot see anywhere that says exactly how many atoms are involved in an atomic clock. More than one, I guess.

^^ Is this your brainteaser Shutree?

I can't even work out what the question is.

I recall a great University exmaple

    The Question set was

    "Is this a question?"

    The best response was

"If this is an answer yes"

A Nigerian lady, an Irishman and a Thai elephant walked down the road in torrential monsoon rains. There was no shelter of any kind and the rain came down vertically. There was no wind.

The only shelter they had was an umbrella held by the Nigerian lady but she was short and even with her arms fully extended the umbrella only reached the Irishman's shoulder level.

When they completed the journey, the Nigerian lady and Thai elephant were drenched through but not a hair on the Irishman's head got wet

    How was this possible?
