    Chatuchak Flea Market

...today's activity was a visit to the Chatuchak Flea Market: 6 floors of junk collected from around Thailand. Mostly pedestrian stuff (tourist items, old furniture, statues of departed royalty, etc.), but a magnet (I assume) for tourists. However, we did find 3 antique picture frames to show off departed family members...

I used to like a wander round the Talat Rod Fai night market.

There's some amazing stuff and the food and drink around there is excellent.

I found some sort of coconut mojito sort of cocktail there that rather drew me in. Thankfully the hotel wasn't too far a stumble.

There was also one on Ratchada Road, but I think Covid killed it.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

...we wandered around the 6 floors but the impression I got is the stalls are merely a centralized location for tourist convenience...though how many tourists would carry off a moldy sofa I don't know...

@tc - is that near the Chatuchak weekend (open) Market? I enjoyed visiting Chatuchak market whenever I was in BKK. Bought some clothes, knick knacks, souvenirs, etc. I also liked the park near it.

Ooh. I'd probably have a pic with E.T. if I was there!

^I only watched ET (and most movies) on TV when they were shown for free. We didn't have $$ for the cinema (and I think I was too ypung when ET came out).

I didn't know that the term ET had other connotations. Heck, I even studied the poem "The Owl and the Pussycat" as a kid and didn't think anything of it. We named one of our childhood cats "Pussycat" (Pussy for short). It was only when the BF of my elder sis laughed at our former cat's name that I knew the other meaning of "pussy".

Take note that for us, English was a 2nd language and we didn't know much slang, much less the "dirty" slang.

    Oh, the days of innocence...

Great stuff - I live within walking distance (walking but sweating profusely) but I've only been a couple of times.
There are lots of interesting things / collectables but I've always assumed I would be ripped off - plus I don't have much space for that kind of thing.

...that was our impression after asking about various knickknacks...SD was able to bargain vendors down, but not enough for us to make a purchase beyond antique picture frames...asking price B2,800 per frame. We eventually paid B6K for 3...

...we passed up several sofas...along with mildewed living room sets, uncomfortable-looking Chinese wooden seating, musty carpets and all sorts of glassware and dish sets...furniture items that caught our attention (Chinese cabinets and screens) were not available at flea market prices...

it is one of my abiding regrets that i didn't buy a Tibetan cabinet and chest from the Tibetan quarter in Kathmandu when i was there, the prices were very reasonable then. I kept dithering and the chance passed, would all have been shipped home free at the end of tour too.
