I still remember getting a school trip to the beach to celebrate her 25th jubilee.

I remember many years ago in the village... must have been in the 70s, there was a jubilee with street parties and games and stuff, and everyone was given a mug.

I still have mine although it's starting to look it's age... must be getting on for 50 years old.

We were given a commemorative coin, still have mine.

I do remember the enthusiasm and street parties at such a young age.

Loads of celebrations going on and peeps are putting up the bunting daily.

^yeah. I learned about those 2 unfortunate women from S4 of The Crown. In the episode, Princess Margaret learned about the existence of the sisters (their cousins) but didn't visit them. She let a friend of hers go to the mental institution to check on them. So much for philanthropy from the Royal Family, eh....

@cyrille - hey, love it or hate it, there is some truth to the stories in The Crown (a fictional version of it). The RF has no love for their mentally challenged members. I think there was also a brother of a king (was it the brother of QE2's dad, or the generation before that) who was also hidden from public eyes?

As a non Brit who grew up with stories of the RF in the media, I think QE2 is great. Charlie & Camilla, not so much, but hey, they're old & everybody has the right to be happy with their partner. Charlie & Diana were mismatched.

William & Kate are OK - they seem very grounded. Harry was OK before his marriage. After that, it went downhill.

Prince Andrew - never mind. Princess Ann is admirable. The youngest son (Edward?) seems to be OK too.
