Red face Help save the Fairy Barracuda

On manoeuvres will post more once access to a normal manpad/kepyapd and by end July photos
Thanks for the kind messages folks.

I will aspire to soil the towels and deck loungers of floorstar retort Slyam Chupalonghorn Day to wallow in cross dressing pool girl /melon /colly/ and complete the research.

I apologise sobriety is normalizing my orthography so will purchase some better Swiss "full stregth" Absinthe at Basel/Mulhouse Flughafen , this Czech stuff only does double vision in shades of gay , as on the backside of semi pound from the United Bendsome, You can here Churchill rotating in his grave fast enough to kick start a Suzuki noddy car all the way down Rheintal to Basel.

Fairey Barracuda DP872. Restoration of the World's only WW2 Fairey Barracuda torpedo bomber.

Over 2500 Barracuda aircraft were delivered to the Fleet Air Arm, more than any other type ordered by the Royal Navy to date. Unlike other more iconic aircraft of its era none were retained for posterity and no complete examples exist today.
Since the early 1970s the Fleet Air Arm Museum has been collecting Barracuda components from a wide variety of sources throughout the British Isles, with the long term aim of rebuilding a Barracuda.
Nose, centre section and wing components from Barracuda DP872 were the first to be collected and have since formed the basis of the rebuild. Says Dave Morris Curator of Aircraft "some restoration work on the nose section was started in the 1990s, however, the enormity of the task coupled with lack of funds meant no further significant progress was made until now".

Full Steam Ahead for Barracuda DP872

On the 6th February 2015, the extensively re-built tail section of Barracuda DP872 was brought back from volunteers working in Newcastle.
The Project will now continue at the Fleet Air Arm Museum and work has begun already with the Barracuda occupying quite a large portion of the museum’s in-house restoration facility!
The project will aim to use a high percentage of re-claimed original parts and material where it is practical and possible. However, this will be balanced with newly manufactured components where structural integrity is required or where an original part simply does not exist.

    Elevator hinge
The centre section has been completely dismantled and Frame 6 (the start point of all Barracuda fuselage builds) has been set in a jig for alignment.
A lot of people have asked if the FAAM Engineering Team will have the skills required to make or restore all of the parts needed for the rebuild, or if we can achieve a rebuild. We hope that these new images will demonstrate that the Engineering Department is very well equipped in both skills and tooling and will make great progress towards creating an example of this unique aircraft.

David has been testing a word algorithm he's programmed which jumbles words within sentences and paras and occasionally mixes letters up within words - the prospective client, the Lichtenstein Navy have intimated they are very happy with the product.

My first real job was at RNAS Culdrose. It was a quiet outpost back then. Nice part of the country. The whirlybirds are still there in large numbers.

...all this talk of Fairey Barracuda and no pics, never seen one but here's a couple of photos:

The tailplane supports look a little rudimentary but this is the late 1930's.

The Yagi aerials on the wings are interesting. They are for the ASV Radar, which operated at VHF frequencies and was one of the first of its kind. Below is a link to the wiki page for anyone interested. At the bottom of that page is simulation of the A scope display that was used by the operator. Fascinating how the early ones worked and how the boffins got this into an aircraft so quickly.

I spent a few weeks at Culdrose during training also, learning roping from helicopters and cliff climbing/abseiling at nearby Sennen Cove.

I think the museum landed on a worthwhile project. Hope they get the money to finish it to exhibit status and beyond.

A welcome back to the D44 sir.

I missed out on saving a Fairey Barracuda in 2017, much to my regret, but I have managed to get my hands on a few other big Faireys over the years.

Nice fleet Loopy, are they 1/72 or is that a huge glass of Pros Echo?

Funny how Ivor Cutler doesn't sound as impressive as

My model collection was manly first world war, I lost my model Buccaneer on my travels , nothing compared to my cousin who ejected nd lost a real one off Lossiemouth in some training debacle.
There used to be a mothballed one at Feet Air Arm and Elgin and either RAF Scampton or Waddington in Lincolnshire UK..

My only post WW2 plane is a English Electric Lightning plastic kit with that unmistakable nose, better to goat race at Lightning Ridge than brakeback Mounting nannys eh?
