Planes trains and autos. Model building

Does anyone build models ? Or has in the past ? I used to 15 20 years ago. I just picked up a Messerschmitt 262A-1a. It is a fighter/bomber version of the ME 262. The first jet powered aircraft in service. Its quite small. I don't even have the right stuff to build properly yet but I just wanted to brush up on some skills with this thing. I have a Mig 31 Foxbat coming in the mail.

This has been done over a number of days.

Fuselage together, cockpit installed. Just putting on engines, then off to the paint booth

    I did when I was 11.

Wouldn't mind getting back into it. Though probably with model supercars/classic cars as much as planes etc.

I've done planes and modern ships. It's a great thing to get back into.

I was just thinking it a time to get Master Willy into it. But not as easy to find as they once were!

Nowadays it's all Apps for designing and making their own planes and trying to get them to fly etc.

They'll never get to feel the real-life emotions of the pilot falling into the glue or paint while you're high as fuck off the fumes.

I've noticed that fine motor skills seem to improve with age. If I was 13, this plane wouldn't have turned out this good.

I took a 20 year break from building and flying RC models and then got back into it living in Chiang Mai. Got kicked off the Chiang Mai Unversity agricultural lands and then flew off a Japanese friend's paved strip out toward the Mae On area. Back in the USA now, here is my scratch-built Casa 212, 100 inch span. Always enjoyed flying models better than real planes as the models rarely try to kill me.

Do you have a very understanding wife and a full workstation taking up 90% of the kitchen, or do you have a kitchen in your man-place?

Well, she is very understanding, but that is my basement shop corner. Just a sink and the requisite coffee-maker there in the corner with shop cabinets that do look kitchen-like now that you mention it!

What a beast. What are the dimensions ? How much does a small accident usually cost for repairs ?

^Well, the tail sits almost 30 inches tall and it has 5 inch mains. Operating rear ramp so I can drop 50 ping pong balls out the back, and I used local materials so it was fairly inexpensive. Wood construction so repairs are easy, and only had one minor issue to deal with so far in 3 years of flying it. Usually some epoxy and added wood and you are off. It can do 4 point rolls, hammerheads, and inverted flight but touch-and-gos are the most fun.

In a way yes but flyable aircraft are a different genre.

This is what blowing me out would look like.

I recently discovered that some keen railway modellers use specialist painters to do their little people and animals. Modellers can paint and age their buildings and trains but even people with good modelling skills find painting figures like those in your pic to be beyond them.

Not bad for a $26 Airfix kit.

^ It looks a bit bland Skiddy. Are you sure that's the right camouflage pattern for the "white 7". Shouldn't there be some insignia on the tail and some more on the fuselage?
