Good lord. Catching up on this thread was good for more than a couple larfs. Been eating prunes and bananas. The stool softener has started to work, and I am pooping again.

Not as regular as I would like but the pipes are moving again. Recovering from these surgeries is no joke. Worse than the surgery itself.

I Googled the causes of umbilical hernias. Unless you're having a multiple pregnancy, the causes seem to be ... self-inflicted.

^They are (or at least most definitely can be) self inflicted from over exertion. I had my first inguinal hernia at about 16 years old from unloading a delivery of steel by hand, and more over the years, including 1 umbilical hernia, from going at it way too hard in the rack. Just had to get that last shot off before she left

I had this hernia for about three years. It was minor and I almost never even noticed it. About 3-4 months ago, it suddenly got worse, and my doctor referred me to see the surgeon.

^Not sure about umbilical hernias but Doctors told me inguinal hernias can strangulate themselves and shit gets real very fast should that happen.

^ Yeah, I'd been aware things weren't quite right down there for a couple of years... then watched this tv programme abount hernias and felt quite ill looking at the diagrams. I went to the hospital the next day and in 2 minutes was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia.

Had the op the following day.

Indeed, humping large loads can be somewhat fraught especially if you're against the clock and short timing which I imagine was very much par for your course.

I’ve been dealing with one for years. Dropping 30 pounds over the past year and a half, helped, but every once in a while, it flares up. Did you have the mesh surgery?
