This weekends DIY project involved wondering why the cistern is leaking into the bowl and the watertank pump keeps popping on every 30 minutes

So watch a youtube that explains that the valve seal probably needs replaced

Pull cistern apart to find valve seal that is probably as old as the house and completely crumbling so try to pull the old crumbly seal off and watch it crumble more and leave half of itself embedded inside the assembly so then dig the straggles out with a screwdriver and a stanley knife

    Show us your bodgy DIY-img_20230527_034223-jpg

Remember that the downstairs toilet is almost new and probably has a good seal (if the sizes match) and since the downstairs toilet never gets used its seal can be cannibalised until a replacement is sourced

Spanky salvage seal in a fetching orange hue

Different model cistern but looks like the diameters match

    Show us your bodgy DIY-img_20230527_034929-jpg

Slip it on to find it doesn't look quite right but give it try anyway and find it is still leaking.

    Show us your bodgy DIY-img_20230527_035635-jpg

Then pull the seal off again and apply slippery squeezy liquid to aid with the seal slipping into its seat

All's quiet on the waterfront pump again, jobs a good'un and my late great plumber grandad is smiling down from his pearly pew at this chip off the old block

Took the ol' 650 out for a burn yesterday, and unfortunately one of the spotlight brackets gave up the Lulu at 200kph.

Unfortunately the wires were obviously installed and sealed before the rest of the front end.

The spotlights ain't fitting through there.

    The quick n easy bodge.

    Don't like spotlights anyway.

Though if someone happens to have a bracket, I give great oil massages.

Bring the broken one to a local fab shop, looks pretty basic. They'll have the apprentice right on it.

Was thinking that, until testing it out after, and it seems to have been a bodgy fix of a slightly annoying buzzy rattle.

The apprentice can stick to doing Lao Khao runs for the time being.

It's all good Lao and I am backing out nasty boys with gay abandon this week.

I feel the 5 bar pressure is on to show some competence in this particular school of bodgery given that I carry master-plumber genes in my germline

My mum recently had to call out a plumber to fix her sink. The (very wrinkly old) plumber rocked up and recognised my mum's unusual surname and said he did his apprenticeship under a plumber by that name. It turned out he did his apprenticeship as a teenager under my Grandad about 50 years ago. Small world.

Oh man, i wish i was a Plumber. When things go pear shaped those rascals are in the box seat and have literally got us over a barrel and charge what they like. I had one guy say to me that my shit was his bread n butter and if i kept shitting he kept working. Cheeky bugger, but he did fix the problem and the wife was happy . Happy wife happy life apparently

It is good to have the downstairs toilet working again since it is further away from the lounge and bedroom so you can really let rip without fear of being heard

I threw the wife's 'pressure cooker' into the recycling bin, pissed off at yet another waste of money for the crap she buys from Facebook.

I don't like to linger in the gardener's petri dish of a kitchen but paused long enough to notice this. He obviously took a liking to it.

So the can and brick are to hold the lid on when using? Looks like an accident waiting to happen.

^I especially like the staggered off-centre stacking of the tin-can+brick. A real touch of Thai safety engineering!

Off with the original factory Jaguar struts, now sagging badly, and on with the cheap eBay replacements

    Show us your bodgy DIY-20230711_203942-jpg

While I was there I thought I would treat her to a new tie-wrap for the boot access. The original bodge had gone brittle and snapped off leaving only an inch to grab hold of

    Show us your bodgy DIY-20230711_205659c-jpg

It would have been much easier to do the tie-wrap before the struts as the rejuventaed struts were super-strong and meant holding the boot down at 45 degrees with my chin to thread the tie-wrap was bruising work

Did a real pro-job by even removing the old tie-wrap. She can't say I'm not good to her.

Oven stopped heating so first investigate and remove the carbonated spider that has been adding that individual flavour nuance to my pizzas for the past couple of years

While I am here might as well whip off the dodgy door that has been held up by a bit of wood for 4 years

    Show us your bodgy DIY-20230802_025908-jpg

Disassemble the door to access the busted hinges

Remember correctly that it was the right hand side that had had made the deafening bang noise 4 years ago

Decide to check the left too anyway and find it is also bust

    Show us your bodgy DIY-20230802_030305-jpg

I was horrified to find that these are $82 a pair inc postage!

But on the bright side if I had not checked the other side and only ordered 1 then it would have been $55 and then I would have had to order another.

Could have got a whole new oven for $500!

Good practise would be to tape up those two wires in case any inadvertently turns on the oven breaker

He has a new element and new hinges. The wearing parts are new. Why spend 500+? Plus you don't get the feeling of accomplishment of fixing something
