Are internet forums still dying ?

Depends where you look. But not according to this. Forums or "online communities" are on the rise again.

The Rise of Online Communities - GWI

Social media was at one time the poster child for carving out meaningful social spaces, but it’s now arguably created a more individualistic, less communal space.

Our data shows those who share details of their personal life online through traditional social media has declined by 35% over the past 5 years.

The authentic connections users look for (but don’t always find) on social media are part of the fabric of online communities – a major reason why people are turning to these spaces more and more.

My guess is most people posting on forums are in desk jobs and basically just posting on the company dime.

Now everyone's unemployed or WFH they have to muck in with all the house shit while they are 'working'.

Which would presumably help forums more than it'd hurt them.

Speaking of expat forums, looks like we have a Thailand News Forums - Thaiger Talk on a fact finding mission here on TD. That's cool though.

Yes, I've noticed Thaiger has a forum, but extremely inactive at present.

Yeah I noticed too. The admin seems to have developed a habit of locking topics too. Like the thread about forums. Why. Why lock the fuckin thread?

Seems ppl don't want their bullshit little narrative that "muh social media is killing forums" disturbed.

It's mostly hogwash. There are ppl who join muh social media , who'd never join a forum and never have.

Social media and forum members are a different cohort. Social media is for normies

….. some ‘tourists’ are clearly desperate to fit in. Having tried teen speak and been ignored, he was just beginning to show signs of recovery, when his penchant overcame him.

But then he qualifies the title with the "or online communities"
As in all Chinese are Asians abut not all Asians are Chinese, so is Forums are online communities but not all on line communities are forums. IMO it is all these other online communities that have diluted the base and have contributed to , if not the demise, certainly their popularity.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
