(I did my visa extension bank statement and letter the other day, the "nice young man" that could speak english advised me how to approach the counter staff lady in basically the same manor) We all enjoyed the light humor of it, and yes I did say "hello you are very pretty" to the cashier,(In Thai), But that is what Thailand is about, you can still say that here and the person will take it as a compliment. (depends on age I guess?)
