Back on track, I have seen from the inter web sources, all empirical, that homes in Mauritius are plagued by cockroach infestations. Is this true from your own experience Simon.

How much is wine? Is the meat imported from France? Have you been to Port Louis yet and explored the island's underbelly?

Well, there have been a few cockroaches in my house, but no more than in Laos. Maybe they are attracted to the smell of curry or something?

For wine, I can't comment on the prices, except to say that there are very well-stocked wine shops in the shopping centre.

I drove through Port Louis a few weeks ago. I think the majority of residents are African, nothing worth seeing there and I wouldn't want to live there (youth crime/druggie problems).

I certainly want to do this. But my teaching workload (7 days a week), makes a day long trip (or even half a day) impossible right now. I need to create some passive/residual income source, so I have more leisure time (I am working on this BTW, but it takes a lot of work for me to create a defensible passive income stream...)

Well. I have taught almost 4,500 primary science lessons on iTalki.com. I am (without boasting), an extremely popular science teacher, because young kids seem to 'click' when their teacher is eccentric! I had a new Chinese student today, 7 years old. At the start of our online class, he was (understandably) shy. After 30 minutes, he had completely come out of his shell and his mum booked a whole package of classes after that But I can't keep teaching students - I do it 7 days a week.

So here is my niche idea that I think could either earn me $10 a month, or (more realistically) $10 million a month. Kids want to learn about science in a way that isn't boring and relates to the 'real world'. Their parents also want them to learn about science, so that they can get ahead in school. In China (about 50% of my online students are in mainland China), many schools either don't even teach science, or teach it in a manner that is TEDIOUS! The kids hate it.

Now in the 'West', if you want to learn more about science topics, you go and watch videos on YouTube for free. That generally isn't possible in China, because YT is blocked. Sure, you can use a VPN. But from my own experience of teaching kids in China, they either know nothing about VPNs, or are wary of using what is generally an illegal software (circumventing the blocks of the Great Internet Firewall).

My idea is to create a complete science course for each primary grade, 1 through 5 or 6. Based on the science curriculum that I teach online, that's about 50 lessons of say 45 minutes each, covering all the topics of the school science curriculum. So if a student follows my videos, then they should end up knowledgable about that grade of science, and able to pass the science exams at year end.

My plan is to create these videos (that's a lot of work), add Chinese subtitles, and then sell each package of videos for download in mainland China from my own website. So maybe primary grade 1 (50 videos) is sold at $100 USD equivalent. There are about 100 million kids in China of primary grade age....

I have been working on this idea with a website that is hosted in China for my videos (onlinesciencevideos.com). The website exists, but without video content as yet, and access is restricted to mainland China. I am currently sorting our the coding to enable users to pay using WeChat or Alipay.

For this idea to work, I need to create interesting videos that clearly explain each science topic, with vocabulary, test questions etc. Then I need to market my idea.

I am confident that my idea will work if I actually get the ball rolling and create the first package of videos (complete primary grade 1 course). I just need to get off my backside and start creating the videos!!

Divide and conquer! Look at your demographics and start there with the material. Why start with the grade 1 stuff if the majority of your students are grade 3?

I'd love to be in a position to create the material, but material creation doesn't pay, generally speaking.
