Turkey is great but as Erdogan proves you are but a feather away in Muslim courtiers from tipping the scales into Islamic nutter ruling with the backing of so called scholars pulling the strings and winding the clock back 5 centuries.

Simon wise man that he is spunked his dosh in Thighland thus ensuring he is in the safe position to rent as opposed to buy, albeit he hasn't got a permanent home for Candy's bonce. Sometimes Zod does truly work in mysterious ways.

Is the head put away when dinner guests arrive, or does she get a plate of plastic food as not to feel left out?

well Shu its a valid question. I think Candy is mute whether by design or through Simon43's over zealous actions. I cannot verify he takes out his frustrations on Candy's bonce with a vigorous throating but I worry he'll end up like that British actor on the Walking Dead who lead a community and kept decapitated zombie heads in jars in a secret loom whilst he kept his zombie daughter locked up.

Sorry Simon, its really none of my business what you do to a decapitated sex dolls head short of sowing it on a real person.

Her head is purely an interesting table ornament. I can assure you that I take out neither violent nor sexual frustration on her!!

Now as to Muslim extremists, I would be rather surprised if ISIS appeared in Fethiye, but I suppose anything is possible. Hence the advantages of keeping my modest funds offshore and renting house, car etc. If it all goes tits up, I guess the next place would be North Cyprus or Greece or Spain. Anyway, let's see how long my sojourn in Turkey lasts

My interest in the cultural, political and religious experiences you find is based on a six week working visit to Turkey 35 years ago, a brief 4 month working experience in Qatar in 2017, and the last 4 years spent exploring Bali and Sumatra.
For a variety of reasons that experience has been based on fairly benign aspects of religious influences, and my earlier indifference to political mores.
I am curious about your research on the Turkish society in Northern Cyprus? I have spent time living and working in Southern Cyprus, but only got as far as Nicosia on the way north.

Does the UK recognise Northern Cyprus as Turkey or a separate country, in regard to your UK pension annual increase? Although, the "increase" is somewhat of a misnomer.

Yes, police hassle is the last thing you need.

There appears to be some financial problems in Turkey currently, how are the locals reacting?

A good shortlist for the auditions Katie. Jeremy Irons is a shoe-in.

I was thinking Willem Dafoe but I was thinking older Simon. They will have to use CGI like they did on Arnie in Terminator 9 to get the young buck Simon rendering

When I lived in farangland, it was in an area with a lot of Turks. The young ladies (teens/ 20s) were mostly slim and pretty. They put a lot of emphasis on their eye makeup, since their hair was hidden by the head scarf. Most of the ladies dressed conservatively (long sleeves, trousers/ jeans) and wore scarves. Upon entering motherhood, their behinds grew too - was visible even in their black abayas. Most of the moms brought the kids with them during Saturday grocery shopping. The moms had this wheelie cart (that I associated with moms or old people). I didn't like the way some of the men treated their wives (based on what I could see). But I kept silent, as it was their culture & I was a visitor/ foreigner.

    *****

@looper - Willem Defoe is American. We'd need a UK actor to depict Simon in the movie. I think Michael Gambon & the other actors mentioned by Simon are too "advanced". We'd need a younger actor to sell tickets, I think. Maybe Cumberbatch, McAvoy or Tom Hiddleston (forgot about him in my other post).

@Switch, actually I did a fair amount of factual research about Cyprus, and the events that led up to the intervention by Turkey in the north. I consider myself as an unbiased researcher. Actually, I do have Greek cousins etc. In the end, the facts indicated to me that it was the Greek side in Cyprus who were the 'troublemakers', as a result of their continual demand for integration with Greece (Enosis). The Turkish Cypriots never asked for, and certainly do not want union with Turkey.

Cyprus is a touchy political subject, and I don't want to start a shitstorm here on TD with posters who don't agree with my conclusions

@Katie23, my initial impressions of the Turkish people is that the women are given little freedom and the men are friendly, but could do with a shave..... Anyway, I keep myself to myself and - as you say - it's their country not mine.

    Food is good and healthy!

Actually, I seem to be the only person who eats salads. Every other foreigner (mostly Brits) are eating meat, chips and loads of beer, and are like lard-buckets as a result. No wonder there are some many electric tricycles around for those who are incapable or too lazy to walk

Thanks for your detailed reply. I’m not interested in a shit fight either. I would like to learn more about life in the north, not just a political opinion.

That looks delicious, and a great view. Goodness knows why some Brits prefer chips and crap instead of that...
