Isle of Man?
Since Turkey was mentioned in past posts, could it be Turkish Cyprus?
Puerto Rico ?
Yup, Cyprus . . . ?
Shall we guess how long before you get jailed or thrown out of it for being well dodgy?
The winner!! Yes, I'm moving to live in the 'illegally-held' territory - Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (TRNC).
The TRNC has (in my opinion), been dealt with rather unfairly by the UN. If you look at the rather sad history of the island of Cyprus, the minority Turkish community on the island lived happily with their Greek neighbours - the small map below shows that their was no separation between the 2 communities prior to the political problems in the middle of the last century. (blue is Greek and red is Turkish communities).
The problems started when the Greek community called for Enosis - joining with Greece. Naturally, this was opposed by the Turkish community on Cyprus, and the British, who were actually the colonial owners of Cyprus at the time, found themselves the target of violence by the Greek communities, as well as against the Turkish communities.
Enosis was (and is) never going to happen. The Turkish Cypriots have never asked for union with Turkey - they consider themselves Cypriot. When the Greek-majority Cypriot government fell, and union with Greece seemed inevitable, Turkey intervened in 1974 (with the support of the UN) to protect the Turkish Cypriots on the island.
Unfortunately, the fact that Turkey did not withdraw their forces after that, was NOT supported by the UN!! So the TRNC was declared as an independent country, recognised only by Turkey, and no doubt despised by the Republic of Cyprus (the Greek part in the south of the island), as well as by Greece. However, it should be noted that since this intervention by Turkey in 1974, there has been no more violence on the island.....
There was a poll a few years ago to see what the island community wanted to do about this stalemate. The Turkish community voted to create a partitioned island (legalising what currently exists). They did not want union with Turkey. The Greek community voted for the whole island to join with Greece..... Oh well, talk about pigheadedness!
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
There are a few, elderly radio hams in TRNC, who enjoy their radio contacts with other hams across the world.... except not with Greek or Greek Cypriot hams, who post 'pirate station' etc on the various radio ham forums.
One reason for choosing TRNC, apart from the opportunity to wind up Greek radio hams, is that the population of the TRNC is about 326,000, yet that also includes more than 100,000 students from mostly Middle East and African countries. The universities lack skilled lecturers/scientists etc. I don't plan to teach there, since I'm already fully-employed online. But I see some opportunities to share my knowledge with some of these students. I use ham radio as a path towards learning about radio and space communications/space science etc.
have a great adventure in whatever you do, always interesting reading.
If that's the case , why would I need to tell you anything?
And it is not that it is not a member of the UN , it is that it is not recognized by any country other than the invaders.
There are two countries that are not members of the UN, the Holy See and the State of Palestine. (google it), so you are not moving into a country , you are moving into an illegally occupier territory.
What could go wrong with that?
As for gay sex?, or sex with their famous donkeys, I am afraid I would not know much about that.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
Exactly. I've done my research. I know the violent previous history, and I also know the more recent and peaceful history of that territory for the past 46 years. That's good enough for me...If that's the case , why would I need to tell you anything?
Can just see next years headline in

Beautiful Island. My family vacationed there in the late 50's early 60's. We mostly stayed in Larnaca and Nicosia.
@David44 - I shall have to speak with my supplier in China to see if they can smuggle a Candi 2 over to North Cyprus. The fact that it's an island might prove a challenge. They could probably truck it over to Turkey, and then hire a couple of enterprising Turks to row it over.... I shall have to investigate the demand for sex dolls on the island. Judging by the posted photo of their gorgeous local women, I might have found a new and lucrative business
How do you do the paperwork to get there? Through Turkey?
You can either fly to southern Cyprus and then cross over in Nicosia (as many Brits do when on holiday). Or fly to Turkey and then fly to north Cyprus. The latter is fine for me 'cos I'll fly Vientiane-KL and then KL to Istanbul, stay in Istanbul for a few weeks to sort out some documents etc and then fly on to TRNC. I have a nice stone cottage with a big garden near to the beach all sorted out to rent for about $400 USD a month....
Simon, you should write a book about your life. What with your hotels, the crazy ex-wife, teaching & philanthropy in Myanmar, the shake down in Laos (and many adventures in between) - it would be a good read, I think.
If your book becomes famous, you might get approached for a Hollywood deal. But those films "based on true stories" usually need a redemption arc or a gruesome end...
Good luck & safe travels!
