The Fall of Gladys Berejiklian Premier of New South Wales

I am currently watching a public grilling on television that the former premier is getting at the hands of ICAC in reference to her relationship with corrupt politician Dary Maquire former member for Wagga Wagga. I would advise anyone interested in political accountability watch it. Something like this would be almost unheard of in Asia. Especially ex army generals.
No amount of obfusgation by the former premier is influencing the ICAC prosecutor. An example of where good democracies can work. It is currently playing live on ABC TV for those whom have access in LOS. here is a reference to those unfamiliar with the story. N.S.W. has the largest population and is a significent part of the Australian economy.

    ^ From the article:

In that regard, there are concerns that Ms Berejiklian met with Mr Maguire about an upgrade to a road more than 100km from his Wagga Wagga electorate, which runs past two investment properties he hoped to use as short-term rental accommodation.

It also alleges the Premier failed to disclose a conflict of interest when planning the M9 Outer Sydney Orbital; a project in relation to which Mr Maguire stood to obtain a financial benefit from.

“Mr Maguire stood to profit from both the upgrade of the Cobb Highway and from knowledge of the M9’s route. He was the premier’s partner at the time,” Labor leader in the Upper House Adam Searle said
When will the pollies learn . . .

She is getting a blow torch applied to her at the moment and she has falled on the politicians' usual excuse, "I can't remember."

and she is certainly getting grilled.

The fellow asking questions (is he a barrister or lawyer?) is smart. Really interesting watching him lay out the case, and the traps. She tries to answer like it's a press conference and he politely has none of it.

Interviewed tonight, she gave a brief expression, for less than a second, very like she was just about to burst into tears, but then controlled it.

she has really crashed since winning the last election - fucked up with COVID and now ICAC.
I thought it intersesting that when she stepped down literally none of colleagues came with any real suppport - cos they knew.
Scomo the fuckhead that he is, sobbed about poor persecuted gladys and how unfair ICAC is - but all of her colleagues j=knew she wasn't the poor virgin upright spinster.
NSW pollies are pretty much corrupt whatever their stripes - their answer, get rid of ICAC

Naughty Gladys is a dirty stop-out

Her sleezy squeezy has got the face and personality of a dogs arsehole.

What was she thinking. She is knocking on but is quite slim and could have done stacks better than that macguire dag-bag.

    Shame onya Gladys

Luckily we're never going to catch up to Queensland in that stakes . . . speaking of which:

And this is the problem with pollies - they obfuscate, deviate, deflect . . . start every answer with 'Look' or 'Listen' and then go to the next journo when it gets uncomfortable. Jacinda a is a master at that - annoying as hell.

In situations like they are stripped of their parliamentary privileges, their support staff . . . and a good grilling is to be had - let's hope results are forthcoming

I saw once or twice, but the ABC reports counsel told her off 6 times to stop speech making and just answer yes or no.

    here’s the quote

.Gladys Berejiklian is a disciplined, practised politician who rarely strays from her talking points. But the witness box in ICAC is a very different beast to the floor of parliament or a TV press conference. There is an art to answering questions in these formats. At a press conference in August, the then-premier told 7.30 it was a "ridiculous" proposition to suggest that she intervened in a grant assessment.
But that kind of response doesn't fly at ICAC. The NSW government has empowered the agency to compel witnesses to answer questions. Barristers are sticklers for yes or no responses.
On no less than six occasions, ICAC Commissioner Ruth McColl pulled up Ms Berejiklian for not answering questions, or for drifting off into speech-making.
