Ice everywhere, so I've joined a gym instead.

Isan village life. Someone's father passed away and the funeral was held. This morning was the commemorative breakfast. There is a special name I don't recall for the 'spirit house' that forms part of the departed's shrine. Traditionally these are made from bamboo and banana then burned after the ceremony. Here they got more creative with four plastic chairs which will be donated for use in the temple.

After the prayers was the traditional blessing of the guests. In my case a firm whack on the head with a very wet brush, very refreshing this chilly morning. People seemed to find this amusing.

All followed by breakfast. Nothing like a bit of cold fish and cauliflower to start the day, with that Isan side dish of dried chillies mixed with pla ra. I can eat most things, pla ra is not on that list.

Fortunately they also had warm pork soup and sticky rice, so I wasn't left hungry.

It's the Gold Coast and the background in the pic is a split between the suburbs of Surfers Paradise on the right and Broadbeach on the left. Here's a pic taken from Broadbeach looking South towards where Looper took his pic.

My Google photos "stylised" it for me or sumfink.

Anyway, what colour is a river supposed to be? Green?

In my experience, a river is rarely the colour it’s supposed to be.

    Brown?

Generally Rivers reflect the colour of the sky unless they are polluted.

    Apparently...

The ocean is not blue because it reflects the sky, though I believed that up until a few years ago. Water actually appears blue due to its absorption of red light. ... The water molecules absorb all the red wavelengths from the light, making it reflect blue.

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of Schindler's lift.

This one is only 5 klicks up to the ridge and then you can walk along the ridge either way for quite a few klicks. We hiked up to Phu Chee Duean as it is less busy than the other sections along the ridge. A truly amazing area though and one I would strongly advice everyone to visit.
