I have not yet visited the Thao To Waterfall park in the rainy season. I have been quite a few times in the dry season, when there is no waterfall. So I went to see the rainy season version.

This is not it. I went to the lower entrance and planned to walk the short distance up the hill along the stone-flagged path. I wore trail shoes but the flags were damp and treacherously slippery in the shade of the forest, I could move uphill slowly while downhill was very tricky. So I returned to the bottom without reaching my objective. There is only a small amount of water running here despite recent rain and I don't feel like I missed a greater spectacle upstream.

Looking around there were a few critters. Some are left over from the days of the dinosaurs.

A Whip Scorpion, also known as a Vinegaroon. It looks like it was designed from the front end first and they kind of ran out of time to do the tail properly.

Post a photo you took yourself-thyropygus-jpg

A millipede, probably a Thyropygus. There are more than 30 different species in Thailand. We've all seen them, mostly without knowing exactly which one we are looking at. Like this one.

Post a photo you took yourself-emmagrays-jpg

I thought this one might be Emma Gray's Forest Lizard (Calotes emma alticristatus). I found one picture that looks similar

Calotes emma alticristatus species page - THAILAND NATURE PROJECT

then I found many that look very different. So I don't know.

Post a photo you took yourself-torenia-jpg

There were some flowers around too, including these Torenia (Wishbone Flower) which are native to Thailand and also sold overseas as a garden plant.

I've mentioned elsewhere that I only occasionally see Birdwing butterflies near my house and rarely do they stop to be admired. This one was standing in the mddle of the road and I was just able to take a quick couple of pictures from my car.

Is that the Tat Ton Waterfall park?
Nice pictures. Looks like a nice place to visit.
I was thinking of taking a ride there this weekend. From the Google directions it seems like a 2 hour drive from our home in Khon Kaen. Is it open during Covid restricerions. Do you think we will have any issues driving there from KKC, we have a new car and red plates.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

This is Thao To, it is about 2 hours from Khon Kaen but North rather than South of you, so nearly the opposite direction from Tat Ton. It isn't much of a spectacle although you are welcome to visit any time. I have done the short loop around the park quite a few times in the dry, it really didn't feel safe in the wet. Which makes visiting the waterfall when there is water to fall a bit tricky.

6am and a snap of one of my radio ham antenna, with the moon behind. This antenna is a 12 metre high, self-supporting fibreglass telescopic mast with the antenna wire running up to the Lao flag at the top. I use it to send/receive television pictures (like the tiger picture) on 14.230 MHz.

Yes, slow-scan TV (SSTV). The received signal quality will vary of course, depending on propagation, and whether some damn great mountain is blocking the signal! Here's one from the ISS that I got a few months ago.

I encountered God while out on a cycle today

He was standing behind a tree

This was my road to Damascus moment when the mote fell from my eyes and I sank to my knees and let His power wash over me and shape me as a tool for His work and a messenger of His word.

On today's bicycle ride I encountered some baby swans on an evening waddle with their parents.

Then I encountered the devil himself. The coont sneaked up and stuck his spiky hot trident in my rear tyre causing it to suddenly deflate. This was halfway along a 10km loop.

And this happened at dusk too so I was 5km from home with the sun below the horizon.

I toyed with the idea of calling an Uber but I thought the Uber blokey might not be impressed with a punter wanting to put his greasy bike in the boot for a 5km fair.

So I walked home in the gathering darkness pushing the bike

3 of the cats and 2 of the dogs having a midday nap. Note the cats claim the dogs beds for themselves.

I have it in opposite formation: 3 dogs + 1 cat, watching with envy the dining of their masters: (and since today the cat team has been increased by +1, the friendship relation not yet established to get them all in one picture)

We actually have 4 cats and 3 dogs, with an addition to the canine contingent arriving at the end of this week (semi rescue) just to even things up.
