Looking through a desk drawer looking for a couple of Mont Blanc pens last night, in relation to another thread. Came across some of my old lighters. Not a collection per se, more an accumulation and reflection of too many bored times in airport duty free shops. As I no longer smoke, guess they'll reman languishng in the drawer.

A couple of Cartier ones, and a S.T. Dupont which is probably the most valuable one, the case is actually Palladium.

    ^^

Re the S.T. Dupont, I can't remember what I paid for it, must be 16 or 17 years ago. Out of curiosity, I just Google'd it:

S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 Brushed Palladium Lighter | Penworld >> More than 10.000 pens in stock, fast delivery

It was on May 16 1770 that young Lieutenant Cook sailed past Fingals Head and Danger Point for the first time.

I thought I would take a stroll along the sands to memorialise the 252nd anniversary of the historic charting of the fatal shore.

Gets its name from the Basalt columns resembling those of Fingals Cave back in teh old country

    Fantastic!

The Giant's Causeway has long been on my list to visit... I didn't know you had similar in Oz.

You could maybe chip me off a piece for my rock collection?

Speaking of collections. Do you only collect airplane teaspoons or is a larger spoon suitable also?

    ^ I'm intrigued.

I picked up a couple of Qatar spoons on my way over to this job but they're just the normal sized teaspoons they give you for dessert. I've never seen anything different.

    How big is your spoon?

    ^ Thanks!

Later I'll take a picture. myself, of the cutlery I picked up on my way over last week to see if it's any different.

I can't do it right now cos Muhammad's sleeping in the cabin.

On my regular walking path there are artificial birds nests - this one had an owl living in it for years but it seems to have disappeared. Yesterday there were some new tenants checking it out - though they weren't there today so maybe its not up to scratch. I think they are lorikeets or 28s (my grandad used to shoot every 28 he saw on his farm - when I was a kid many years ago).

    ^^^ They're good photos!

Muhammad finally got up - we're having a small crew change today and he's flying back to Karachi tomorrow morning and I now have a cabin to myself - so I could get into the cabin and find my cutlery.

I picked up these flying over with Qatar last week...

To be honest I think your spoon is exactly the same as my spoons, so many thanks for the offer but I think I'm covered. Why not start your own collection Willy?

If it tickles your fancy Mendip try and download a copy of this most awesome geology/evolutionology course to take with you. You could even watch it on shift since it is vaguely work related.

    The Great Courses

A New History of Life with the wonderful Professor Stuart Sutherland of UBC and a former manky mancunian

It mixes in lots of evolution to bring in your biology minor.

I learned all about basalt on this course but that was more than a year ago so my sieve-like monkey-brain has since lost 97% of the details and I am already looking forward to rewatching the whole thing when I can squeeze it into my schedule.
