Do you know how to ride a motorcycle ?

This video is a graphic example of a rider not understanding the principle of counter-steering on a motorcycle. In short, turn the handlebars left to go right, and turn the handlebars right to go left. This principle holds true at speeds from about 15 or 20 mph and higher, and is true of all motorcycles. Don't believe it? Watch the video. And then go out to a safe area with no traffic, and try it yourself. Practicing counter-steering so that it becomes second nature can SAVE YOUR LIFE! Understand and practice it.

(*Warning*This video is unsettling but the rider survived)

    The OP is technically correct.
However, I would put it to any observer that the dickwad on the bike going too fast for his/her ability in the first place. The numbnut was on the wrong side of the road in most of the video.

Died in hospital of covid anyway

A lot of ppl are sayiing that in the yt comments but i disagree. The rider just didn't fundamentally know how to ride. He would have to use counter steering even at 20 mph. And if he didn't know, he would have still hit the truck. Just at a slower speed.

Of course I do, I've been riding motorbikes for more than 50 years.
I've had no idea that I was counter steering though.. I just do what I do to make the bike go where I want

It's mumbo jumbo innit? He pushes on the left to go right, I pull on the right to go right.
    Must check it later today..

I'm glad I've got a mask on when I ride my electric bike because I probably look terrified. I can't even scream because it's silent.

I rode motorbikes for years in my youth and I can't ever recall turning the handlebars unless I was maneuvering at very slow speed. I just shifted my bodyweight, leant the bike over and let gyroscopic precession do the rest.

The guy in the video looked like he snatched the front brake in the turn, which is an absolute no-no. Too much speed on entry and unable to tighten the turn.

You've been doing it on instinct.

It is mumbo jumbo yeah. But as the video shows , some ppl just don't have the concept worked out. So when they get into a panic , they do the wrong thing.

12 years ago, a Vancouver Canucks prospect was killed the exact same way. Some people said that it must have been a gust of wind or somthing. Nope. He coudln't steer

Can't drive one and don't wanna. I've been in an accident riding as a passenger. Never again will I get on a motorcycle.
My father was almost killed as a youth riding a motorcycle as well.

I bought a scooter when living in Beijing and drove it around the school to practice. I sold it because I was too afraid to drive it in the streets of Beijing.

I think that most who have driven since their youth, have had close calls.

    I know that I have.

    Too close

I don't know if you remember Rury from Ajarn, but I met him in Bangkok at one of the Ajarn get togethers. He was killed in a motorcycle accident. It was very sad as I knew him and his gf well.

I've rode all over Thailand and Laos, loved it, some tense moments but just stay aware.

Put me on the back of a bike, Scoopy, ER6, Wave, Harley, whatever, I'm freakin terrified! White knuckled grip on the handles the whole time.

^^ yet the Thai girls can sit sideways, with a bag of pop, not hanging on and not a worry in the world!

Yeah you're right, there is a difference in being a passenger and not in control and actually having control of the bike. Yes, it makes me shake my head when I see the girls sitting sideways on the bike like that or four or five people on a bike with little kids as well on a bike. I won't say never will I ride a scooter again, because you never know! Riding in a busy city is different from riding in a more rural area with less people.

I started out in the UK with a Suzuki AP50, then an Italian Harley 125, Honda CB650, then Honda Goldwing GL1000. My ex-wife sold the Goldwing to the gardener when I was at work because she said "You've been riding motorbikes for yonks, and have never had a serious accident - you're overdue for one...". Female logic!

Here in Laos (and previously in Myanmar), I ride off-road bikes, to cope with some of the bad roads.

Now I ride a nice Kawasaki

Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
