My lawn is getting to big for me and I have been thinking about leaving part of it alone.

But I'm sure that it'll turn into "forest" within a year.

Cherries, Ash,Sambucus and Plumtrees will take over.

Are you planning to clean the land every year ?

After cutting and collecting clippings all Summer (to reduce fertility in soil) last week saw a "day of action".

31 local volunteers turned out to scarify, plant 55 kg of bulbs, 16 rare heritage fruit trees, 20 herb plants (rosemary, thyme mostly), assorted soft fruit bushes inc blackberry, raspberry and gooseberry. We sowed 2.8 kg of assorted annual and perennial wild flower seeds too.

The total cost so far has been just over £2500. We have £800 or so via GoFundMe and (I was delighted to receive!) a covid recovery grant of £1750 from the local authority.

the next stage is to let nature take its course. I will be cutting paths in to create walkways to explore the area with QR codes to a website detailing the different plant varieties.

We used a turf cutter to go down to bare soil to ensure some islands of fast growth for the wild flower seeds. They can then cross polinate the scarified areas where there's competition from the grass

Good project there L&F. I note many councils are leaving the grass longer and cutting less frequently, of course this may be a convenient cost saving in the name of encouraging wildlife but even so i think its welcome.

Yellow Rattle as a parasitic plant living off grass and cutting and removing the mulch is i believe the best way to develop the habitat. I watch Country File and its heartening to see the number of farmers that are setting aside some land to turn it back into wildflower meadow.

Really lovely. People looking after it? No problems with rubbish or kids drinking booze?

Kids drinking booze is a problem hardly likely to be worsened by a few flowers.

Reg Dingle would like to know how when the poppy crop will be ready.

But the dumping of their rubbish when they do so will be. Or are you being deliberately obtuse, yet again?

The flowers are attractin bees and creepy crawlies. Sufficient to keep the local wimpster yoofs away. So far, at least.

^^ Missing the point because you have the intellectual capacity of a beagle yet again.

Your response just makes no logical sense whatsoever.

    Again.

    Try again.
