There is also the not so small risk of mutation, into something even worse. Something that might make your knob turn green and yellow, then drop off. Or worse.
Get vaccinated, get the jabs out, stop pissing about. No matter the diatribes, a jab even 50% effective reduces the risk of transmission, and mortality by way more than 50%.

Like Thailand, Australia put its early bet on a home grown product, and as such did not order much from overseas. Poor choice.

Great question and one the HR dept was not able to answer with any type of clarity other than "Hospital is following direction in that only one Foreigner per company can receive the AZ vaccine"

I was offered Sinopharm though, which I declined.

Sadly I would think that was a case of "making shit up as they go". Never seen or heard anything like that elsewhere.

It is interesting (to me) that Delta was found in Guangdong some weeks back and recently there has not been much news on what is happening. If the Chinese vaccines are not effective against the Delta then there will be a reckoning if it starts spreading in China's largest cities.

    This from MSN:

EXPLAINER-Are Chinese COVID-19 shots effective against the Delta variant?

The lack of detailed data on the Chinese vaccines against the Delta has hobbled any meaningful peer reviews by foreign experts.

Researchers found that Chinese vaccines are somewhat effective in reducing the risk of symptomatic and severe cases caused by Delta, Zhong Nanshan, a epidemiologist who helped shape China's COVID-19 response, told reporters.

It is based on analysis of infections in Guangzhou city, and Zhong told Reuters the results are preliminary and the sample size is small.

Sinovac spokesman Liu Peicheng told Reuters preliminary results based on blood samples from those vaccinated with its shot showed a three-fold reduction in neutralizing effect against the Delta.

He said a booster shot following the two dose-based regimen could quickly elicit stronger and more durable antibody reaction against the Delta. However, he didn't provide detailed data.

Antibodies triggered by two Chinese vaccines are less effective against the Delta compared with other variants, Feng Zijian, former deputy director at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told state media last week.

Feng did not provide details including the name of the two vaccines.

The shots could still offer protection, since none of those vaccinated in southern Guangdong province, where China's first cases of the Delta variant were found, developed severe symptoms. All severe cases are from unvaccinated people.

I found out today that there are 4 in our village with covid and several in neighbouring villages. They all caught it in Bangkok. The Bangkok hospitals say they are full and can't treat them. The result is they have to go to their homes, according to id, and be treated in their local hospital. Problem is local hospitals don't have capacity to treat so they stay at home waiting.

I can't think of a better way to spread the virus around the country.

It was reiterated 3 days later when the staff all showed up, my boss was asking them why it was only 1 foreigner and that the company had pre-paid the doses purchased..

    Nope they were adamant.

But of course health services are doing this themselves - which is why they are starting to give people an extra dose of Pfizer or Astrazeneca....

I believe it also but the reason given about only 1 farang allowed is pure BS. Made up reason to cover the fact the hospital does not have the AZ jab available. None of the private hospitals in Roi Et have it and don't expect to have it until October. Of course they are more than happy to let you prepay to get in the queue.

The company I work for purchased 130 doses and 130 staff received them.

There is a second deliver of AZ coming soon to Chonburi (2 weeks I think) and my boss is trying to get allocation for the other 125 staff here.... as well as myself and the other foreigners refused in the first round.

The UK has a population similar to Thailand's and has logged over 150,000 deaths where Covid is mentioned on the death certificate.

The UK has about 8.1 nurses and midwives per 1,000 of the population. Thailand has about 2.8. (World Bank data from 2018).

The UK had an early vaccination program and has had some serious lockdowns. Thailand, well, let's just say the majority are unvaccinated and the program is something of a 'hope to do'.

In the circumstances, can anyone tell me how Thailand is going to end up with Covid death numbers below the UK's? (Without fudging the numbers.)

I am trying to be objective. I simply cannot see how they can contain it at this late stage.

Do you really think that Thailand has more Covid death than UK? The first year there were here nearly no cases (also not much restrictions), only in the last months seeing some substantial figures.

But what I do not believe - roughly seen:
The UK has about 8.1 nurses and midwives per 1,000 of the population. Thailand has about 2.8. (World Bank data from 2018).

    No.

    No he doesn't.

Perhaps a good advice for you. Why not let the author of the comment explain his query:

I was just saving Shutree some time, not having to respond to someone who frequently has problems understanding fairly basic English.

    No need to thank me.

Yes it has become quite obvious that his comprehension of written English is just as bad as his attempt to write using it.

Especially when their primary vaccine source is selling its production to Thailand's neighbours instead of supplying them to the government as promised.

No, I'm afraid it's looking terrible really.

I'm looking into hiring a car and driving from Pattaya to Chiang Mai.

I'll be good with my post-QT paperwork.

But the way it's going there might be no inter-provincial travel at all by next week.

That's actually what they should do, of course.

It might leave me in a bit of a bind though.

Still, loytoy doesn't know anyone who has it.

    So there's that.

    Stop it completely? No.

But if the will were there it could be hugely curtailed.
