    Thailand's response to Covid

This surely deserves a thread of it's own.

When Sinovac's efficacy is being questioned in Chile, Indonesia and elsewhere, where Sinovac-immunised people have contracted Covid variants, why has the Prayut cabinet kept ordering more and more of this Chinese vaccine instead of pursuing superior doses elsewhere?

How come the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), whose board members are associated with the Bhumjaithai Party under Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, seem hellbent on importing this vaccine, while seemingly being reluctant when it comes to procurement of the US-made vaccines that are reported to have more efficacy?

.... But if there is fishy business involved, the possibility of criminal lawsuits must come into the picture. Are people dying and succumbing to the virus because of policy shenanigans?

Is there a jab cover-up in Thailand? (bangkokpost.com)

Whilst this Editorial from the BP stops short of suggesting that any Cabinet Minister who is a member of the BJP faction of the current junta would ever resort to corruption, there may be an issue with certain policy discrepancies.

It is also a real pity that the sole mandated manufacturer of AZ in Thaland, 'Siam Bioscience', appears not to be able to manufacture it.

We know that Sinovac is shit, the death of the Indonesian medical workers who were 'fully vaccinated' attest to that, however ...

The MiL and FiL got their yesterday and both received (apparently) the AZ jab.

They ain't rich, so they would have got what ever was being offered.

Thailand ranked 3rd to last worldwide on Covid-19 handling

In a display of just how far you can fall, Thailand, once ranked as one of the top countries in the world for Covid-19 handling is now almost at the bottom of the rankings, number 118 out of 120. The Nikkei Asia Covid-19 recovery index calculated data from 120 countries worldwide and ranked Thailand third from last.

The study combines data on the infection rate and management, social mobility, and vaccine rollouts, ranking a country higher as they edge closer to recovery by means of high vaccination rates, low Covid-19 infection rates, and how limiting Covid-19 safety measures are.

Thailand, like Vietnam, had ranked at the top of the list in 2020, with strict lockdown and prevention measures keeping Covid-19 outbreaks to a minimum. But 2021 brought an explosion of more contagious Covid-19 variants, with surging infection numbers throughout the country.

Coupled with the government’s slow and haphazard piecemeal response, a bad bet on the Sinovac vaccine that is not very effective against new strains, and a governmental nationalism banking on domestic production of AstraZeneca vaccines mired by delays and now aiming to deliver half the original amount of vaccines, Thailand has failed to keep on top of the growing local pandemic.

Adding that the whole show - from the get go - is being run, organized and health decisions made by profit-driven and ignorant political entities, mafia bosses and elitist circles......less from a pure scientific/health standard that might benefit the commons.

    Whatta shame.

CP owns 15% of Sinovac. Astra is the bigger problem.

I still do not know anyone personally who has died from Covid.

Nor has my partner in Bangkok who employs over 2,000 people at 2 different locations.

Nor have my kids who live in Bangkok.

Am I wrong in suspecting Covid is a project?

I’m not in Thailand. I’m in the US. I know 12 people that have caught it, and two have died. Because you don’t know anybody affected by COVID, means fuck all.
You’d fit right in at a Trump rally.

Don’t get too cocky about it. That’s about the time it hits people around you or your own self.

    It's a spurious question, nob.

I don't personally know anyone who's been to the moon or who died on 9-11 or who voted for Biden either.

Or who died from roundup, or lung cancer caused by smoking...the list goes on.
