should people be forced to get vaccinated

More stories are appearing about workplaces enforcing rules concerning vaccinations and jobs

    is this acceptable ?

should you lose you job if your refuse to get vaccinated for covid-19 ? is discrimination against anti-vaxxers acceptable ?

if some ones social media indicates they are anti vaccination , should that be allowed to be taken into account during the hiring process ?

    No.

Most people want the vaccination, and theres only a few nutters out there who refuse to get it, so if people dont want it and dont care if they get sick then let them carry on. Everyone else is vaccinated so who gives a shit.

Tricky question, but then overriding individual rights in the name of the public good has long precedent so not exactly a new one either.

Not forced per se, but certain privilege's for those vaccinated.
in an investment the return is always directly proportional to the risk (or should be) , the vaccine is no different, a person made an investment , took a risk and should be compensated.
I find it funny that conservatives want the government to stay out of our lives except when it comes to issues that are important to them. The government should not require people to be vaccinate for the good of all, but should require businesses to compromise their business model, and hire unvaccinated people. same on reproductive rights, end of life, religion etc.
A bit schichofrenic don't you think?
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

    It's not a few though it's a significant number.

Take a look at your own countrymen:

A lot of your fellow Trump supporters in that I'm willing to bet.

That would be nice if it was true, but it's not.
there are enough nutters out there to block herd immunity, create new variants and hurt us all.
You don't want to get vaccinated? fine, if you dont want to play the rules stay in the sidelines.

PS: AntRoberson beat me to the above answer

Kinda funny to see anti-vax 'pro-lifers' desperately trying to cognitive dissonance their arguments against vaccination on this one.

Absolutely. It is totally up to the employer.

It is not discrimination, if it for the greater good.

I want to get vaccinated, but I dont really give a shit if others refuse to get it. The "variant" problem and "hurting us all" strawman isnt going to be much of an issue in countries where the OP's question would even be possible.

When it's as cut and dried as this issue, covid-19, I'd suggest the public good overrides the individual right - plus . . . if it causes no harm.

I remember getting shots at school for I think it was smallpox and polio but it wasn't an option.

Glanced a headline / tweet / something earlier that some US hospital as either fired or allowed to resign something like 130 staff for refusal to take a vaccine.

Edit: it was Houston hospital and 153 staff apparently.

I believe that the UK Government are going to make it mandatory for all care home workers to be vaccinated. That reminds me, I saw this letter this morning, and couldn't help wonder if it might have come from one of SA's relatives.

Same, probably most everyone here has . . . plus you need to be vaccinated to enter many schools etc...

It's all just a re-hash for the whiny bunch

Indeed. I also got multiple jabs in both the Army and later work for the USG - don't recall it being an option.

...shunning might be a better term: no anti-vaxxer entry to normal shopping venues, schools or any location where near contact with others is likely (e.g. airplanes, trains, buses, ocean cruises)...individual allotments for growing their own food is fine...

I voted no to the title but still think it's a no regarding forced vaccination for employment.

It would set an unacceptable precedent.

if you work in a complex industrial environment where somebody's decision making can cause a dangerous situation in a second , I think you should expect that your co-workers are of rational mind

Its never been a precedent. As Davis mentioned, its been mandatory for military service, and certainly for the companies that I've worked for its been location compulsory though country dependent. In certain countries, you can't even enter if you don't have a current (10 year) Yellow Fever certificate.

Theres a disconnect between "anti-vax" and "im not so sure about this particular vaccine"

The latter seems to be grouped into the former when thats not really a fair assessment of the situation.

Ill get the vaccination as soon as a decent one is available to me, but Im still a little apprehensive of it. Forcing an injection to participate in society when it still hasn't gone through long term studies and alot is still unknown is not exactly the right thing to do.

If you work around old people or something like that, it makes sense, but giving employers and governments carte blanche over who can do what is wrong, at least at this point in the pandemic.

I still have vivid memories of the US Army 'air guns', that used pressurized air to fire multiple injections into you at one shot. If the medic didn't press it hard against your arm, the blast usually resulted in your falling back into formation with blood dripping off your fingertips.

There are already rafts of employment restraints or requirements depending: no drugs/alcohol; background and character checks; no associations...

    The list goes on.
