Perhaps Aus is more homogenous than Canada. There are several different parts of Canada. Quebec is a country within a country. Newfoundland might as well be.
Toronto and Vancouver are on different planets culturally speaking.

I understand that you reside in Thailand somewhere but are originally from, I have no idea.

I never made any secret of who and where I am. But unlike FB where you can control who has access to your information , an open forum such as TD has no filters, and there are many very strange people out there. So one needs to be careful what information they disclose in an open forum.
As you said, it would make for a better environment if we all knew each other a little better , but unfortunately thus is the nature of the forum beast.
I think that if we all knew each other a little better we would all discover that most of us, are not as bad. or as good as we think.
On another forum there was one member that I always disagreed on every issue, to me he sounded like the biggest a-hole ever. Then when I was looking for a builder for my house in Khon Kaen , he recommended his builder that he had good luck with. During my build we got to know each other pretty well and he turn out to be one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet. I think the same is the case in this and other forums with most people. .
So , I was born in Greece, but my parents immigrated to the US when I was a toddler. I grew up there, and I consider myself American, but I have a strong connection to my Greek roots. In the US I Grew up in NYC , and after I got married moved to FL but continued to work in NY. (worlds longest commute). In my second marriage now to a wonderful Thai lady (better than I deserve) , married now for 12 wonderful years, and currently living in Khon Kaen. I consider myself a recovered asshole, tough others might disagree.(the recovered part) My greatest fear is that I am as big as an a-hole now as I was then , only in different ways, and like then I just don't see it.
So I appreciate any input on the subject LOL.

I think everyone here who might be vaguely interested is well aware where I live, where I was born, and where I have lived in Thailand and elsewhere. You can see, if you want, photos of my two residences in Thailand, and of course myself right here on TD.
But I keep my credit card details, bank details and postal address strictly confidential. Can't be too careful.

To the OP, there have apparently been a few on this site that have been relentlessly stalked by posters and from what was posted, did some really nasty things to them. With those events I think posters remain guarded ( I know I do to a great degree). Also as we know, posting pics of oneself usually ends up photoshopped and posted. While the intent is/was probably to have fun and some are, when it got personal the pictures took on a new direction.
