Here’s one from our soon to be demolished river shanty.
Brillant, is that a boat or are you just close to the water?
Here's my small bedroom balcony.
OK, so maybe I don't have a view of the sea but I can look straight into my neighbour's bedroom.
A while ago I considered starting a thread to compile a list of balcony railing heights but thought it might be a bit boring. I was going to do this after a stay in a Bangkok hotel where the balcony railing was so uncomfortably low I couldn't use the balcony at all.
Anyway, my balcony railing is 96cm above the floor. OK for the upstairs of a house but I wouldn't want to be on the tenth story of a hotel.
We have a second slightly larger balcony attached to my office, but I just looked outside and it's like a guano farm from all the pigeons that take shelter out of the sun. I'll keep that pic to myself to avoid any negative comments!
I built this many years ago using some leftover granite from the kitchen. It is very rarely used since I'm not too keen on cooking with charcoal.
The small balcony/terrace shared by two of our guest bedrooms. They each have patio door access to it, with good views over a klong and the Naka hills in the background.
To have a balcony, terrace in Thailand, it does not give much sense and use, beside of an architectural form. I have yet to see Thai people enjoying sitting on a balcony...
We put a small table and chairs on the terrace if we have guests staying. This balcony is west facing, and whilst uncovered, is in shade until midday (the photo above was taken around 11 a.m. today). Guests enjoy having an early morning coffee there before it gets too hot.
Maybe not for you comrade and the Thai's dont know what they are missing. I sit on my balcony each morning with coffee, then in the evening with water, fruit juice or a beer after exercise. Feel the breeze and just enjoy. 23 years now. Built a new rear deck that encircles the back of the house as part of our renovation as well. Looking for nice outside furniture for it now.
I used to always sit in this upstairs balcony area at our place, especially with a big rain as the wind whips through there. View isn't breath taking by any means but nice place to relax. I used to keep my hammock there until the pool was finished. Now no one goes up there and sits. My wife and I discussed making that area my office but I am not going to work that much longer and I prefer working at the pool bar now. For now its just a balcony with a few chairs.
How is the wave action over there? LOL
Did you do the brick work Yousef? if so I want to take my hat off to you. Either way nice work.
Here in Issan many people make their own charcoal. My Father in law used to make his own at a small farm we have a couple of miles away from the House ( God Bless his soul, he passed away unexpectant a few years ago at 70 years young. I miss him). He would make a big pile of wood, Cover it with clay, open a hole on the bottom and one on the top, and let it burn for a day or two.
The Charcoal they make , once lit it burns hot , does not go out, and the barbeque from it is delicious beyond words.
Find a place and that sells homemade charcoal and get some. They say that, 'Once you have black you never go back" LOL
I have it in my bucket list to make a barbeque just like yours.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
Nice view, I would like some hills, here in Khon Kaen we don/t have any.
Ours is also facing directly west, good until lunch, then in the evening again. First Thing I do when I wake up, about 6 am is , make a cup of coffee, (wife sleeps late) go out on the balcony, and make my call to the US where it is about 7pm the day before.
When I explain to them that I am calling from the future, they always ask me for the lottery numbers. LOL
Absolutely beautiful pics, Thanks for sharing them.
Off our balcony facing west up north.

Off our balcony in northern Nan province. View is to the north along the western edge of the Luang Prabang mountains. In front of the ridge is the Yo River valley and behind it the Pua River valley. A few houses in two villages are in view. Ban Sala immediately below us and Ban Mon on the other side of the Yo River.
The diversity of beauty in this country is "Amazing" ^^^^^^^^^^^^. And you can live any lifestyle you want to with shops down the road.
