Sure is. From the mountains and jungle of the north, to the beaches of the south.

I lived in Isaan for a year, nice big skies, but cannot imagine choosing to live one's life in a massive inland flatland (that is mostly baked dry for most of the year).

I use my balcony to hang my clothes out to dry sometimes. If I stand up in the wrong place I whack my head on an aircon compressor shelf.
I've cut my head twice like that since I moved here in February 2020, so I mostly dry my clothes inside and the balcony can go fuck itself.

Also it seems I have to learn how to post pictures again.

I like it a lot too. I have an MM2H visa and if there were no Covid I'd be in Penang now arranging a renewal. Sadly, not possible at the moment.

My wife's family pretty much all live there, and we were only just having a similar discussion to your post the other day about getting back for a visit when it's next possible. It's so cheap anyway for hotels/long and short term rents that the only question you ask yourself is if you wanna be in town or down at Tanjung Bungah/Batu Ferringhi.

It was 6 or 7 years ago, but that 2 bedroom sea-view apartment cost me about 10,000 baht a month! I was paying that 15 years ago for a studio in Bangkok in Phra Khanong!

My God it was hard to leave that place...sunrises and sunsets over the bay...nipping out for butter chicken and a couple of Tigers at Sri Ananda Bahwan...

RM1200 per month for an apartment . . . nice. I doubt you can still get that, but I may be wrong.

Malaysia cops a lot of stick but I think it's head and shoulders above most other countries, especially Thailand. The whole Muslim thing plays out in politics and doesn't affect most of us adversely.

Breakfast roti canai with either dhal or a light curry, a good teh tarik and coconut . . . oh yes!

COIVD might have brought prices down again. Lot of expatriates leaving Malaysia (or unable to get back in).

This remains my favourite breakfast by far after spending a few years living in Malaysia around 20 years ago.

Bizarrely, it's still roughly the same. It's an older building compared to some of the others, but it has a basic gym, pool, sea views.

Whichever way you look at it that's some bloody good value for money.

This has really been a problem for many. People I know down there have friends or relatives, in one case a dependant child, who have applied multiple times for permission to return. Ten or twelve rejections is not uncommon. Then some get approval without any change in circumstances, it seems to be random.
I had hoped they'd make some provision for MM2H visa holders, They haven't yet.

Ah, the healthy option . . . if you really like roti canai then I suggest you order it gareng - less oil and crunchier

My friend's small balcony in Hong Kong. I stayed with him so often it felt like home.

He was always a very generous and well-stocked host.
Sadly, no longer with us, neither he nor the Yamazaki 18.

Back in the real world, less a balcony, more of a balcony rail. A small bar in Nakhon Phanom, looking across the Mekong to Laos. A pleasant spot for a sundowner or three.
