Florida Woman: How this cross-country romance captivated Twitter — and ended in heart

How this cross-country romance captivated Twitter — and ended in heartbreak

After flying out west to declare her love, Rebecca Renner was let down.Twitter

    MORE ON:

It was like a story torn from a rom-com movie — except for the ending.
A Florida author flew across the country Friday to spill her guts to “the love of my life” – only to end up heartbroken and alone Saturday morning in a “s—-y” Oregon motel.
    The romantic drama
captivated Twitter over the past 24 hours as it was shared by Rebecca Renner, a contributor to National Geographic and author of the upcoming book “Gator Country.”
“I asked him if we could try again and he said no,” Renner, 31, of Orlando, told The Post Saturday morning by phone, just hours after her public rejection. “So much worse has happened in life than somebody saying no to me. My heart is a little broken, but it will mend.”
The social media drama that followed Renner across the continent began to unfold Friday evening when the former schoolteacher
    posted:
Rebecca Renner flew across the country Friday, only to be left heartbroken.Twitter
“Last night, a personal tragedy reminded me that life is uncertain and too goddamn short. So I booked a plane ticket, and I’m about to fly across the country to tell the love of my life how I feel.”
The post contained a photo of Renner in an airport terminal wearing a black mask covered in tropical flowers as she went to see Francois Wolmarans, the man she had dated earlier this year, their brief relationship highlighted by an impromptu road trip to the Grand Canyon.
“Wish me luck!” she added. “And don’t wait another day to tell those you love that you love them.”
Renner would not share the details of the tragedy that inspired her to take the trip.
Renner did tell The Post that her and Francois Wolmarans later had breakfast to talk.Rebecca RennerHer post generated an instant reaction, including more than 11,500 “likes” and global comments from both the love-filled and lovelorn.
“Three months after we met, my not-yet husband flew from England to Singapore to do the same thing, except I had no idea he was coming,”
tweeted Tze Chua. “He still makes my heart beat faster. Good luck, and may this be just the start of a wonderful adventure!”
    Others are still looking.
“I’ve never been lucky on finding love,”
posted Sage Christian Drake. “So I trust the universe will find me that person.”
A shot Renner took on one of her flights during the journey.Twitter
    Renner
tweeted from the sky later on Friday, saying “One more flight to go!’
“THIS IS A ROMCOM MOMENT AND I AM SO EXCITED,”
tweeted Katherine Morgan in full-throated all-caps mode.
“I have lived an entire romance novel in the past month, down to the plot structure. It’s truly wild,”
    responded Renner.
Only the tale didn’t end in romance, but heartbreak.
Renner, after facing Wolmarans, tweeted out a selfie early Saturday morning taken through a mirror.
“Well, this is me in my s—-y motel room after getting rejected,”
she wrote. “I don’t know whether to be sad or angry, but I’ll live to love another day. Hopefully that love will be for someone who values it. Sorry to disappoint you, Twitter.”
And now her search for love begins anew:
Renner said to The Post that it gave her some solace knowing her story touched other lives.Twitter
“So now I’m stuck in Ashland, Oregon,” Renner Tweeted. “Any ideas on what to do here? (Anyone want to take me on an adventure?)”
She told The Post she was “really surprised” by the outpouring on Twitter.
“It makes me feel better that this touched so many people. That wasn’t my intention. I was just throwing something out there online. To have so many people tell me about making big leaps themselves and having failed, only to later meet the real loves of their lives, that feels really powerful to me.”

And the story may yet have a happy ending.
Renner revealed to the Post early Saturday afternoon that she and Wolmarans met for breakfast and that they “are both being forgiving of each other … we both think it’s worth it to make an effort to be kind.”

Why would someone put something that personal and delicate on Twitter? Perhaps she's drumming up attention for her upcoming book?

I remember watching that Border Security, and they were questioning some fat, unemployed, seppo burger flipper who was coming to meet with his "true love" (he'd only "met" her on the internet) with about $50 in his pocket.

She was quite a cutie, Asian and well spoken, and agreed that she would be putting him up for his stay, so they let him in.

I think she twigged quite early that she'd made a boo boo and shipped him back pronto.

    Speaking of Florida woman.

Florida woman, nearly naked, leads cops on high-speed chase in stolen car

A Florida woman wearing almost no clothing was arrested Saturday after leading troopers on a high-speed chase through several counties in a stolen car, authorities said.

Troopers were alerted around 10 a.m. Saturday that the stolen 2009 Cadillac sedan was seen traveling on I-75 in Sumter County, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said.

The stolen car was located on the interstate in Hernando County, where troopers attempted a traffic stop.

But the vehicle instead sped away, reaching speeds of 110 mph while changing lanes and using the roadway shoulder to pass other cars. Troopers pulled up next to the vehicle in an attempt to persuade the driver to exit the interstate, according to an arrest report.

Eventually, the driver exited the interstate onto State Road 52 in Pasco County, where troopers used a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle.

Troopers removed the driver, identified as 24-year-old Rachael Lynn Stefancich, from the vehicle and took her into custody. The FHP said that Stefancich was found "nearly fully unclothed" when she was arrested.

Troopers found a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine and a substance believed to be meth inside the car, the arrest report said. They also learned that Stefancich’s license had been suspended.

She claimed that the car was her aunt’s and she was allowed to drive it.

Stefancich was charged with grand theft auto, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, possession of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license.
