    How would you react?

My wife took our 2 daughters to their school today to register the youngest for the next term. My eldest daughter, already enrolled, was approached by her teacher to drop off some stationary into the teachers rest room. She gave my daughter the keys for access. Both daughters went together and did as asked. They returned the keys and went about their business.

Later the teacher approached my daughters and accused them of stealing her iPad, and some keys, and intended to report the incident to the police and have them prosecuted. My missus didn't know what to do and returned home in an irate manner with my emotionly upset daughters. I told my missus to go find a lawyer etc, as we know our kids wouldn't do what they were being accused of. Normal parents reaction. But before she got a chance to do that the teacher phoned her and asked if she could come around to our house to sort things out. 50Km round trip. I was out on the beer so I stayed out of it.

Teacher upon arrival, so I'm told, dropped onto her knees with her hands in the wai position blubbering her eyes out asking for forgiveness being as she'd found the missing items at home. My wife went the Thai way and fell for this fake 'forgive me' shit. Case closed.

But it isn't in farangs ways. Due to my feeling that this story will get out next term my daughters will be seen as thieves once word gets out about the incident and becomes distorted, for want of a better word. I feel the we (family} should ask for a written apology so that in the event my daughters get talked about then the written apology can be produced when required?

    What do yous think?

Let it go and forget it. Bringing more attention to ithe incident will only create even greater mindless gossip.

For me. It pisses me off that the first response from the teacher was to prosecute before ensuring that a crime had been committed.

...correction: it isn't your way...you have all the Leo in the world to bury the frustration of life in Thailand...you were uncommonly wise to let your wife handle the situation...leave it at that...

    Settle it the Thai way.

Tell that bitch teacher to hand over the iPad and arrange for top marks for both students for the next two years or you're going to the police and lawyer with a defamation suit.

report the incident and the teachers retraction to the head of the school, saying that you do not wish to make any complaint against the teacher, who had the decency to take responsibility and apologise for her error, but you want the incident to be on record in case of any comebacks in the future.

The reconsider character manifest itself quicker with a few shots of Ya Dong.

Prag, as most have suggested here - let it go.

Consider yourself lucky she didn't shave their heads in front of the school before realizing she'd left her stuff at home.

It wasn't right the teacher snapped judgment automatically assuming your children stole her ipad, but it was great of her to come and apologize. I think you should leave it go now, as I don't think the teacher would say anything about it to others as to lose face, and I doubt your children would tell anyone about it either.

It's an odd one for sure.

I think you made the right move to not go and hear the apologetic teacher as you were on the beer. But that also means you don't know how genuine the apology was - but getting down on knees is rare.

If it was me - I'd want some form of resolution and so I'd ask the wife to arrange a meeting to meet the teacher and ask why she jumped to that conclusion and tell her how upsetting that was to hear a teacher presume such a thing about your kids.

I'd do this over food or a coffee away from the school. Tell them at the outset, you are considering making a formal complaint and spell out why you feel the need to prevent fall-out.

Then - if you feel she's genuinely sorry and it won't go further - forgive her. Her career might be on the line. It's not a well paid job and everybody deserves a 2nd chance IMO.

So to whom did she report it? Maybe no one. People say lots of things when they are distressed. Doesn't mean they actually do what they say.
