Anything with Karen Black as the lead actress.
I remember trilogy of terror as being particularly disturbing.
As others also said.
Jaws.
After we saw the movie, I was in Highschool then, me and a few friends took my fathers boat out in the long island sound, not far from Amityville, but at the North shore. Anyway, I don't remember how, but my sister managed to run over the anchor line and get it wrapped around the propeller, and I had to go into the drink and get it untangled. While in the water all I could hear in my mind was
Doond doon doon doond.
I was never so happy to get out of the water. LOL
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
Growing up surfing and was a deck hand on a few charter deep sea fishing boats for years and a Scuba diver, Jaws never freaked me out being I had seen some huge Great whites
But movies like "The Tingler", "My bloody Valentine", "Halloween" always creeped me out. The first Alien flick was tough with all those creatures exploding out of peoples stomachs.
I was sitting on a surf board just off the break off a beach called Coledale south of Sydney where a Great White had taken a lad in waist deep water months before.
My mate called to me and asked about the clump of seaweed floating in my direction.
I had a look and it was a 4 metre long hammer-head shark that swam right underneath me.
Scary shit that!
Forbidden Planet scared my childhood as well as The Outer Limits series. Especially, an episode when an alien comes out of a tv and walks the streets.
As a teen, Last House on the Left. Wish I had never seen it!
While off thread topic a bit, The only time I have been nervous in the water was in Mexico. Was out Scuba diving with the gal I was dating in 60 feet of water. Saw a huge shadow off in the distance. As it came close and traveled by us, It was a school of about 30 to 40, 1 to 1.5 meter long Barracuda.
I had taken my buddy to be certified with a friend of mine who was an instructor , at the Florida keys.
While they were doing their exercises at a sandy patch near Molasse reef , I took off on my own to do some sightseeing , something you are never supposed to do, (always dive with a buddy)
Anyway, I kept track of my kicks and direction, so I can find my way back to the anchor line.
One second I was clear, next second I look up and I am on the middle of a huge school of barracuda, all snaggle tooth and looking at me like I was a tasty morsel. so I sunk to the bottom and stayed still for a while, like I had been told to do in such situation.
Then I looked up , they were gone into the gloom. but I knew they were not too far away, and I just could not see them because the visibility was not that great that day.
So I started to make my way back, but by now I was all turned around, and had no idea where I was, so I desisted to pop my head up , to the surface (I could not have been more than 30 ft of water) , but to my luck I was down current from the boat and there was no swimming back to the boat.
So I inflated my BC vest, and floated around for a while, until my friends finished what they were doing an came to get me.
All very embarrassing, but soon forgotten after I bought a few rounds of drinks at the Tiki bar, at Holiday Isl.
Has anyone ever made a horror film about a pretty woman whom you roger, who then turns out to be a raving loony transexual, who then stalks you day and night with a large pair of scissors?
I think you could make a decent horror movie out of that topic, except the snowflake PC wokes would probably be up in arms about it.
PS - This idea of a horror movie is not based on my own personal experiences - the loony who stalked me was definitely born a girl
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
It is funny how we would find some of these movies scary back then,
When I was a kid me and my sister , every Friday evening we would watch
Chiller Theater on TV
we thought it was so scary, They had movies, like "The creature from the black lagoon"
Now we see these movies and we laugh, The creature is just a guy in a cheesy costume. LOL
I have no idea why, but I always remember that 'The Railway Children' gave me nightmares as a kid. As an adult I've never investigated why, but there must have been something.
^ RU sure you mean nightmare and not wet dream, Jenny just gave me the horn and that only got better with American Werewolf In London
Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Don’t remember ever being frightened frightened by a movie, but I do remember jumping from the bed far enough towards the bathroom door so that fvckin' Alien creature wouldn't grab my feet and pull me under the bed where it was hiding.
The first time seeing The Exorcist I was with my older sister. She started giggling and I whispered to her that it wasn't funny. People started to turn and look at her. Later I learned it was a defense mechanism.
Watching The Exorcist (2nd time) while on acid in bed with a girlfriend was a bit different.
While watching Jaws (2nd time for me) with a friend in the movie theater I warned him (just before) about the head scene that was going to happen. He still jumped from his seat.
Sharks,... I don’t have a problem with. Will seek them out to swim with them, but not great whites/cooler water.
Looking forward to swimming with the Thresher shark/s.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
As a kid,
in recent years,
X Files Squeeze in Tooms. Couldn't sleep for a few nights. Why the F were young kids watching this ? My friend at the time was a F'ing idiot.
Not sure if it was already mentioned, but Hellraiser is fucking horrifying. Clive Barker is a sick sick man.

You're only as old as the people you feel mate.
As a wee kid, Dracula, Frankenstien and the Mummy made me piss myself but as a much older "kid" this one to this day haunts me.
My brother and I get together on Saturday evening and watch Svengoolie on MeTV. Svengoolie runs old restored horror movies like Creature from the Black Lagoon. Fun to see all those movies which scared us so when we were kids. Yep, makes us laugh now.
Oh, and he shows old Hammer movies and Vincent Price stuff.
the Exorcist
Rosemary's baby
night of the living dead ( original)
Freaks
the Birds
Get out
