Eating Bacon increases risk of Dementia say scientists

So repeater must get through a *lot* of it. Perhaps whole pigs.

Eating processed meats such as bacon every day could increase the risk of dementia by 44 per cent, a new study has found.

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, examined nearly half a million people with an average age of around 57, who had signed up to the UK Biobank project.

The findings showed eating 25g of processed meat — the equivalent of one bacon rasher — raises the risk of dementia by 44 per cent.

Meat-eating has previously been linked to dementia risk, but the researchers believe that this is the first study of its kind to find a link between the amount of meat consumed and the chance of developing the disease.

Bit of a surface contraction, as everything is better with real good bacon.
Though, quite dependent on the variable quality/grade of said delectable.

Fuck the scientists and their uptight studies - overthinking most everything.

Life long vegetarian so I should be okay.

I think a far greater determinant of the development of dementia is brain usage. Keep your brain active, think creatively and take on endeavours that keep the brain involved and you're ahead of the game. Spend a lifetime sitting on the couch and watching t.v. and your a good candidate for dementia. The society which we live in generally speaking (in terms of employment in particular) really involves people turning off their thought processes and pretty much functioning as robots, that's a recipe for dementia) To some extent it's pretty much up to individual choices.

No steaks, burgers, barbecues and smoked ribs, the thought is horrifying.

I'm not being critical of bacon consumers. I know people who will would die for bacon, I just don't have any appetite for it myself. I seriously doubt whether bacon consumption has anything to do with the development of dementia.

    I agree with that comment.

There has to be tens of thousands of more useful studies that the taxpayer would be happy to fund.

One of my sisters since recovering from a double mastectomy has gone 5 years veggie now and some of the stuff is quite tasty but i draw the line at her veggie smoked salmon which consists of slivers of carrot (presumably for its colour) marinated in liquid smoke.

I love bacon. God created pigs so some human could invent bacon and that was the start of the best breakfast food ever.
