What to bring to Thailand with me.

I am getting excited about coming back to Thailand. I had my first shot of vaccine, and will be having the next one April 2, now we are trying to secure a vaccine for the wife, hopefully they will reduce the quarranteen when they meet the 19th.
The wife found a Thai moving company here in FL through her contacts on the areas Thai FB group. We are still keeping our house in FL, so we don't have a lot to move, so no container, but we can send boxes 24 x18x 18 inch for $140 each. so I am packing a lot of our clothing , my stand mixer, Ninja foodi airfryer, and some other Kitchen devices and pots and Pans that are good quality. Some of my tools, a couple of guitars, and assorted items, I am thinking four or five boxes. maybe more.

If you were doing the same what would you bring , that I might not have thought? I can throw anything in these boxes that is not too heavy, and can always bring one or two additional boxes.

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

I have a lot of Tylenol, because remember when the pandemic started , and they were saying that the fever would kill you, so I went out a bought all the Tylenol and frozen pepperoni pizza I could find. I figure If the Tylenol didn't work and I was going to die I might as well pig out on pepperoni pizza. LOL

Sure, Tylenol is a cheap amerkin generic copy- does the trick just fine. Real panadol is made in Ireland, but not today because of that infernal saint.

Wife said. "No vitamins and no medicine" !! but I will throw a big box in my carry on. Unless I am going through Doha , those guys are crazy over there with medicines, they could throw me in the clink just for the fun of it,

yea , I thought about that, and certainly a must have, I need a 800 W at least for my stand up mixer,
but they are heavy and just as cheap at Lazada, I looked earlier today.
But I appreciate the suggestion it's certainly a must have,

Back to the OP, assuming you're also bigger than the average Thai the first thing I'd be loading up on would be footwear for all occasions, the choices here in larger sizes are both limited and expensive! If you're a golfer, clubs and balls and whatnot are dear here compared to the States. What you could do is look online at somewhere like Lazada to get an idea of what things cost locally, and decide then if it's worth bringing your own from home.

I hit Cosco the last days always for dried spices, spice mixes, salts, peppers and the such. Keep them sealed in the fridge and they stay good for a long time. Also for me hot sauces like Cholula, and cajun spices. I can get most here but pay double or triple the amount at Villa Market for half the size container.

Brings back memories ... when we moved to Thailand in 2007 I had the wife pack up 5 large bottles of Mrs. Butterworths pancake syrup. Think we still had three bottles when we left in 2010 ...

Also took several bottles of Advil and about 10 sticks of Old Spice deodorant. Had a package of many more sent via my APO mailbox. But that benefit is gone and I heard they have Old Spice at the Big C in Pattaya now.

Still have 471 more days to go until we get back but think about the same thing again now ... what to bring. Mostly this time I think my concern is clothes, shoes and sandals.

Other than that it’s a discussion for us of “our stuff” ... which basically means my wife’s clothes and my collections of decades worth of Navy memorabilia.

But, I think we’re going to end up just stuffing what we can into about 4 large suitcases and just pay excess baggage charges. Everything else gets left behind.

Leaning more towards just making sure we have enough extra funds available to build a new life. Just buy new “stuff”.

Fray Bentos? Never seen it in Thailand, Maybe because the oven is rare to see.
So disregard the Fray Bentos comment because even if you bring it over, you can't cook it LOL.

Good luck on your return BB as well as you Storekeeper in 471 days.

As for what to bring...Quite honestly it all depends on what you plan on doing here upon your return. I personally wouldn't bring OTC meds like Advil or Tylenol, Its all here now. Based on your box size I guess I would bring over good bedding sheets and pillow cases and clothing you will wear daily. Avoid wasting space with winter clothes. You might think you need them, trust me you will not unless you happen to live at the top of a mountain in CM. I'd definitely bring over a top of the line Laptop. They are extremely cheap in the states and quite the opposite here.

As the years have gone on I have found the basic things I require can be found locally at fair prices. On some odd items there is always Amazon and while pricey you can get what you need. The only thing up to this point that I have not been able to find and I look everywhere I go as I travel are good yard tools. The stuff around here like shovels, rakes, picks etc are junk non tempered steel and fall apart in no time. Short of that you can find most everything nowadays (For a price mind you).

    Safe travels

Paperwork. Documents. Tax returns. Birth certs. Literally every document you have about yourself, bring it.

No idea why people are talking about panadol. You can buy it in Thailand cheap as hell.

All those kitchen items they sell in Thailand and will be cheaper locally.

Whatever you ship will be taxed out the wazooo with import duties on arrival.

For me, the only thing I ever make a point to bring from the states are clothes. Proper western branded clothes of good quality and fit.

That one kinda depends. I normally (pre-covid) travel to Europe at least once a year, often during the winter months (just the way it seems to work out). A couple of jumpers/sweaters, a winter coat and a pair of winter shoes are about the only things I would pack. Might only need them for 10 days a year, but when you need them, you need them.

I honestly cannot think of anything else I would pack as a necessity that I cannot buy here.

Yes, I'd say those are the important things.
I have a truck-sized crate of whatever the wife didn't want at the divorce and it has been in storage in the UK for 3 years. I don't miss much except some books and some family photographs.
Clothes, definitely needed. Hot weather gear in the right size is difficult to find here for the more mature Western figure. As are large sizes of shoes. That is all I shop for when I visit the UK, I scour the discount stores for cheap golf shirts and polos, look for lightweight trousers and some slip-on shoes. (I buy wine and gin too, but that doesn't make it to the airport.)

Of course, plenty of expats here get along with flip-flops, a pair of cotton shorts and a tatty, wife-beater vest. I suspect you aren't aiming to join that set.

One question: How will you get guitars into those boxes? With a bit of help from Mary Poppins?
