Right now, it looks like Turkey will be my new home, not North Cyprus, 'cos the latter have not come up with a radio licence for me. Turkey allows me to operate my rig straight away suing my UK callsign (with an extra prefix), and then allocates me a Turkish callsign after a few months.

I'm glad to have had no issues to enter Turkey during these Covid times. I'm sure Omicron (love that word) will be causing border problems for many countries soon.

My first observation is that on the streets of Istanbul, there seems to be a large number of young men, and few women. I guess either the women are locked away, or that many of these young men are not Turkish, but Syrian, since Turkey has taken in about 4 million refugees. Indeed, the restaurant owners (I assume Turkish), speak to their staff in English, not Turkish. I guess again that many refugees will take any job going...

    Probably both guesses are right.
Years ago I went to Little India in Singapore at night, and it was quite a vibrant atmosphere, but no women unless you count a couple of matrons with hubby.

    From Richard Barrow:

If you were double jabbed with Sinovac or Sinopharm, you should consider getting the booster shot after one month. For Sinovac + AstraZeneca or AstraZeneca + AstraZeneca it is 3-6 months. A friend just did a walk-in at Bang Sue and got Moderna as a free booster shot.

For those people having difficulty in getting vaccinated or need a booster, you can also try booking an appointment with your mobile operator:

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened the COVID-19 vaccine registration for both Thais and non-Thai nationals aged 18 years and above to support the Smart Entry scheme for the safety of the public.

The service will provide the first dose for those who have never received the vaccine before, as well as the second and third dose.

The registration can be made via the QUEQ application from now on. If persons cannot register through the app, they may register at the vaccination site, Veth Sports Building 2, Bangkok Youth Center (Thai-Japan), in Din Daeng. The site opens from 08.00 to 16.00 hr.

Those who wish to vaccinate as a group (ten people or more) may register in a form through the QR code. For more information, please contact the BMA Health Office at 0 2203 2883.

Driving to Bangkok Thursday where both me and my wife will receive a Moderna booster shot. Our original vaccination was two shots of Pfizer back in the US before we came back.

Saw/heard on the news that the UK is shortening the previously recommended time between 2nd and booster shots to hopefully counter the Xi-Variant.

    Good move, hopefully.

Didn't think of booster shots in this thread/poll.

Not sure if it is being done in the UK , but some European countries where you need a pass to get in stores and entertainment venues, are limiting the pass to 6 months after vaccination. After that you need to show that you had a booster shot or a negative test lo longer than 72 hrs before.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

They are really turning the screw on the unvaccinated without a good reason. In many countries you cant go in any stores or entertaiment venues without a covid vaccination pass or a negative test with in 72 hrs. And the vaccine certificate is only good for a few months . after that you have to take a booster shot.
They gave the antivax idiots every chance and and all the data, neither seem to work. If the carot does not work, Time for the stick.

I had Sinovac....... Waiting to get the booster shot on Friday, but have to be away for 2-3 days for some sort of training. Hoping that my friends could save a booster dose for me when I come back. Can't wait to be a Zombie!

I can't have a booster shot here in Turkey until I get a residence permit (maybe a couple of months away). I'm not too worried - my last AZ shot in Laos was at the end of July, It's quiet here because of the winter time...

I guess it has been stressful and crazy for many people all over the world. Living alone as I do, can be a blessing or a curse - it really depends on whether you 'need' the company of others. I enjoy a good get-together, but feel blessed that I can return to my own little home where it has my stamp on it, (which in practice means wires all over the floor, half-built electronic projects etc!). Still, everyone to their own.

An agent is sorting out my residence permit here, since my knowledge of Turkish language only goes as far as 'kebab'. I'll apply for a booster shot in the Spring I think.

@simon43 - whereabouts in Turkey? Antalya, Izmir or Fethiye maybe? I've watched some YT vids of Mick and Trudie, also of Jay and Alina (when they lived there). Antalya looks good for expats. Btw, is a Candy 2 coming up soon?

    Hope you're settling in nicely.
