    ^ Nice

^^ So, it seems logical to have Moderna as a booster-shot?

^ The Norwegians are now mixing the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and it's policy to give Moderna as the second vaccination if Pfizer was the first, and vice versa.

I think this was first due to poor Pfizer availability, but now they are saying that it's thought Moderna gives better protection than Pfizer for the delta variant.

If I was following this thread; still undecided and had a choice, I would choose Moderna.

I had the 1st jab on 20th August and the 2nd one on the 10th of this month.

    Pfizer / Pfizer

I booked on the www.thailandintervac.com website

I got the sms from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital (BPH) not long after I registered, and the whole process was very smooth.

They used the 6th floor of Central Festival mall in Pattaya, and it was well-organised (apart from waiting for the final certificate after dose number 2 which took over 1 hour)

    I had no side-effects.

Interesting that now, the government are proposing Pfizer/Pfizer for the schoolkids, yet the parents cannot get that and are stuck with the Sinovac or SinoPharm + 1 good vaccine cocktail.

I suppose they have to use up the inferior stuff somewhere...

Yes...I had the app downloaded for some time but could not register until I received the 13 digit number to get it up an running. It actually works very well.
So far I've not suffered any unpleasant effects from either the first or second shot.... except for a little bit of stiffness around the injection site.

^I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and easy that App worked too. Seems to be that different people have different reactions to the jabs, I had the same problems after the first shot of Pfizer too with headaches and soreness.

Choice being the operative word. In NZ it will be either Pfizer-BioNTech or some other one I hadn't heard of. They're all over the place here with getting vaccines in

I suppose it should not be surprising that different people react differently to these vaccines. People react to just about everything differently.

The endless reports comparing effectiveness of different vaccines is becoming more annoying than helpful. There probably is no "best" vaccine and this barrage of comparison studies just creats doubt and uncertainty in many people. I still have no understanding of the anti-vax people. We have been vaccinating populations of people against all kinds of things for a long time and have managed to eliminate a lot of disease that used to kill many people. WTF is wrong with these anti-vaxxers??

^To be honest, the word vaccine is pretty loosely used when it comes to Covid. I mean, many of us have had vaccines for things like Tetanus, Hep, Cholera, Yellow Fever, and so on and that's the end of worrying about that disease for life. Well ok maybe there's booster shots needed down the road, but you get my point. I'd call these Covid jabs just that, jabs or shots. They're nothing like the lifetime shield vaccines give for the diseases mentioned above.

But anyway, it is what it is and by having these Covid shots we've done everything in our power to be able to get back to some semblance of living normal lives again.

    No longer "immunity" but "protection"

Check out @CDCgov’s evolving definition ofCh “vaccination.” They’ve been busy at the Ministry of Truth:

    Erm...

Booster shots are repeat vaccinations you receive after your first series of immunizations as a child. Protection from certain vaccines can wane over time, which is why doctors advise boosters. The tetanus vaccine is not just for tetanus though. It’s bundled with a vaccine for diphtheria and sometimes one for pertussis (the bacteria that causes whooping cough).

Second AZ today, so that's me 'legal' at least internal to Thailand. 2 doses of Moderna bought and paid for, supposedly available in October but will wait and see.

I assume these shots are for your Missus? After a false alarm rumour doing the rounds in Pattaya we contacted Bangkok Pattaya Hospital this morning about getting non Chinese shots for my other half, the best they can do is register her name for Moderna that should be arriving between Jan and Mar next year.

No, they are for me. Sadly M'Sahib is so far not amenable to having any vax. I can't understand it, she's an educated woman, extremely health and fitness conscious to the point of almost fanaticism. Whenever I've attempted to cajole her we end up arguing with me going into 'up to you' mode. I can see further down the line an impact on our social lives and possibly our relationship as I firmly believe that vax ID is going to be required eventuially in restaurants etc. Already, I'm OK to travel off Phuket and return, she's not.

^^Because vaccines for things like Polio and Tetanus and whatnot are pretty much a guarantee of not catching the disease they're designed to protect us from, even if booster shots may (or may not) be required. Are you saying these Covid jabs will guarantee us against catching it and/or dieing from it, regardless of how many shots of it we will ever have?

    PAG,

Sound a little bit like my wife who is one of the most wonderful people on earth but also the definition of stubborn. Up until the vaccines really started to be administered she was the same. Provoked arguments just like you. But unbeknownst to me I had two secret weapons. Our twin daughters living in California. Simply put they got her to change her mind very quickly. "If you want us to come visit when Thailand reopens you have to be vaccinated". No injections we are not coming. She had the first AZ in early July with no side effects, and got the second one this morning. All is well.

It genuinely comes as a surprise to me that's not the case, or perhaps they were only offering Chinese rubbish? Every Expat over 40 (or under 40 with underlying health issues) has immediate access to their 2 shots of Pfizer here in Pattaya, the first shot is typically scheduled within 48hrs of registering. Don’t see why they aren't doing the same down your way too...

The big push initially was for locals only with Sinovac, and then was extended for Expats with Work Permits. Circa mid June, registration for over 60's Expats was opened, with only AZ being given. Since then, all Expats can register. They have started to give AZ booster doses to those with Sinovac only. The Moderna deal was opened by Bangkok Hospital here on a limited number only in early July and had to be paid for in full with an expected timeframe of October. Still a lot of people yet to get second doses, and no doubt many who haven't had any.

My wife got Sinovac today on the public health, and will get AZ in 3 weeks time.

One out of two aint bad, I guess.

I’ve been trying to get her to sign up to BKK hospital’s double Moderna starting up in October but she doesn’t trust them to come through.

My own driver is a proposed trip to Kanchanaburi in November (which would be solo anyway), and making sure that there were no lack of vax obstacles in the way. That is now done, though Kan is still a dark red area, and who knows how relaxation of restrictions are going to play out in the next few months.

More and more places are asking for a QR code these days on your vaccination certificate and my missus doesn't have one. She had the one shot Janssen one from a Walgreens in New York a couple of months ago, but they haven't given us any help regarding obtaining one when we sent emails asking about this.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a QR code (is it even a thing in the US)?

    Huh?

Let's clear this up. You said:

I mean, many of us have had vaccines for things like Tetanus, Hep, Cholera, Yellow Fever, and so on and that's the end of worrying about that disease for life. To which I pointed out that booster shots are the norm for at least Tetanus - they are not "lifetime shots" and need a kick every ten years.

I don't really care what you call Covid vaccines, they are still vaccines, and it seems a third shot may be required to increase the efficacy of them after time, although at present they still have the desired effect of beating off the worst effects of the disease in most cases.

We won't really know what's going to happen long term until we see countries hitting whatever level of herd immunity effectively neutralises the disease, e.g. Denmark has vaccinated 80% of the over 12's and removed all domestic restrictions.
