I have seen some amazing feminine looking katoeys in Asia not only working in the sex industry but also in reputable entertainment venues and private business.

The fact these men have decided to become women does not worry me in the least but it still shocks me when a male voice projects from what is basically a female form.

Sharing any form of sexual experience with any other person should include some preliminary personal interaction and the vocal dilemma would spook me every time.

I am also aware of many mainly heterosexual themed bars in Thailand that have at least 1 ladyboy and according to reports they do have customers.

Would I engage with a ladyboy and receive oral sex? No.

Do I consider it a gay act? Not necessarily and if the receiving party accepts that the application party really believe they are female.

I think it's because this alternative gender is far more accepted in Thailand that it allows for more to 'come out', as it were, whereas elsewhere there're still quite a few social barriers to keep people 'in'. That, however, is rapidly changing, even looking at my daughter's school reading list - included are five titles by Lesbian an five by gay contemporary authors.

In the 70's half the young kids were copying Bowie, dressing in an androgynous style and claiming to be gay or bisexual.

As fashions changed, funnily enough so did their sexuality - I am not saying history is repeating itself buy it certainly rhymes.

The overwhelming majority of transgender murders are due to gang violence and drug deals gone wrong, and the rest are suicides. They are not hate crime victims assaulted and killed purely because they are transgender.
