    Covid Vaccine: Had yours yet?

My UK GP has called me in for a vaccine tomorrow. I received an SMS on Friday afternoon with a link to an online diary system offering a range of appointment dates and times.

i'm mid 50s with "at risk" factor being high BP under treatment regime.

Who has had vaccine? Who will refuse it if offered, and why? Side effects? Will it actually work?

No sign of a vaccine yet, even for indigenous populations. I am told some government staff and front line medical workers are getting it, but even self funded vaccine for “outsiders” is probably some way off, except maybe for the super rich paranoids.
I was required to show a clear rapid test, for the purpose of my visa renewal application. It’s a poor country with a huge population, all of whom will require two shots. At least they are trying, within their limited capacity to do so.

Parents and both daughters have had both already. What's sad is that while you may be a bit more protected, nothing changes in regards to all the protocols in place and you still have to wear a mask, social distancing, you get no free passes at public places. For now the vaccination changes nothing. Lets see what it all looks like a year from now.

Speak for yourself. But I get my jab on Wednesday, and it will have a massive effect on my anxiety level. Four weeks later when I get my second dose even more so.

Let's see what it's like in six months in the places that are vaccinating successfully. Remember every person who gets vaccinated is virtually eliminated as a source of infection.

This, too. I wouldn't say I was over-anxious - I was WFH from the outset and followed the protocols to the letter - but now I've been 5G chipped in my DNA, I am back in the office and far more productive, and it has definitely lifted my mood.

With the CDC saying that vaccinated people don't need to quarantine, it will be interesting to see how governments of countries that need tourists respond.

Whoever comes up with "No quarantine if you're vaccinated" first gets my business.

I get it Snubs. Lots are anxious as folks really do not know how it may affect them. Could be a cough and gone or a full on path to misery.

The CDC had a huge conference update for the medical professionals last week about being vaccinated at my daughters hospital. Most of the questions asked were "So what now?".

The answer was quite frankly nothing. But to your point, as is probably with many others, is that as long as they are not part of the 5% its a huge win but its best to still remain diligent in your safety controls. The concern they announced was people saying I am vaccinated, I can go out without a mask, no need to be safe but the issue is that people do not know that.

Being here in Thailand, I would expect 4 or 5 more months before vaccinations start here and of course same protocols will exist, old folks and medical people first.

Lets see what happens in 6 months as HB said but I am being realistic thinking about a year due to the variants that are surfacing at an alarming rate.

I am currently in BKK for a few days on business and this place is incredibly different. The Hotel I am at is under very strict controls ( Feel Mendy's pain except I can leave). Almost like a quarantine in many regards. Cannot sit in the lobby, no bfast buffet, no gym, no pool, rooms fully sanitized every day, Bellmen cannot bring your luggage to your room. Around town is full mask as expected. Restaurants have limited seating. No alcohol served.

All I can say is I miss being home up north.

Sounds kinda dangerous given how new the virus is, with different strains mutating differently around the world.

Ten months ago he was saying anyone wearing a mask was a moron.

    It's a learning curve.

Especially in my case as I have asthma so I know what it feels like to not be able to breath. The last memory I want in this life is not being able to breath and a doctor looking into my eyes with a fucking penlight as I slowly painfully fade away.

    Indeed, Lu...
Wiser to question the convention that hasn't been proven as of yet.

We're still not certain to what form or strengths that each mutation path takes - though, I'm sure they're attempting to keep up with the ever changing stages. An impossible task.
Mind you, they're still studying and researching all this shit - and still no conclusive or overwhelming scientific evidence toward the running confliction.

.....and contrary to popular "belief", there has not been an agreed upon scientific evidence that the vaccinated cannot still be carriers and therefore actively contagious.
Needs to be repeated again: The vaccine prevents the individual from becoming ill [more or less], but doesn't lessen the possibilities of picking up/holding the live germ and passing it on.
'Tis the reason why they're still asking those [early stages of global vaccinations] who've been inoculated to continue to practice mitigation protocols. It is what it is....until we reach the critically and highly prized herd immunity.

For the record and keeping to the spirit of this thread: I am scheduled for my first jab on the 24th of this month and subsequent second dose three weeks later.

    I said "virtually eliminated".

The Pfizer 5G DNA chip has been shown to be almost as effective with the UK and SA variants as the original.

Which makes you less likely to get infected.

And because the virus also reduces the impact of infection, it reduces virus shedding, thus reducing your ability to infect others.

Hence the CDC's advice that no quarantine is required as long as you have no symptoms.
