Talked to my 97 year old Mom last night; she thinks she's in line for the shot as early as next month (US). I sure hope so....it's hard enough to be that old without being isolated from family in addition.

Will take it as soon as I can get it. I am above 70 so should not bee too long, in the second wave. My wife is just short of 70 and may have to wait a little longer.

Priority here seems reasonable. They are now vaccinating in nursing homes, the old people living there and the staff as well.

My wife suffers a lot from isolation. She is used to a lot of social activities.

^ That's interesting... I don't know where you are but didn't realise it was possible to book one anywhere.

From what my mum has told me, after her first Pfizer jab she'll get the second one three weeks later (booked) and then needs to wait a week for immunity.

Do you know if there will be a special vaccination book issued, or an update added to an existing one? Have you any idea if any countries are accepting proof of a vaccination to ease entry restrictions?

I've been trying to find out the same, but nothing really coming up only chatter, the UK has considered vaccination certificates but nothing in the near future so it seems.

I'm sure they will be in the near future though, they will be looking to make money some how from it.

I know Qantas has already said they may want certificates to fly on their airplanes.

given the rates of infection in europe and the usa i would expect that once they open their borders asian countries will make it mandatory for any western visitor/tourist to have a vaccination certificate before they will be allowed to board a plane or obtain a visa.

the pfizer vaccine is now being distributed in the uk, and the oxford vaccine is expected to be approved within days, with a roll out starting within a couple of weeks.

why anyone would refuse the vaccine is a mystery.

smallpox, polio, diptheria, tetanus, hib, hepb, hpv and hpc vaccines have saved countless millions of lives so what's not to like about a covid shot?

anybody refusing to have the vaccination should be referred for psychiatric evaluation and summarily locked up with all the other silly anti vax loons until they see either see sense or succumb to covid.

What's amazing about this Covid Pandemic is the hype about it, is like a blockbuster movie loads of hype and no content, Just death and destruction.

UK people died of Covid under 60 years of age=388 jeez

Number of deaths in liverpool since covid 968=around 3 deaths a day for the whole period, and to think this was the first city to go into tier 3

As the medical doctor replies in Chico's link...

5.4 MILLION people have asthma in the UK.
4.7 million people in the UK have Diabetes.
12 million adults in England have hypertension.
All of these are pre-existing conditions.

Then there's the obese to be added...

So chico's suggestion that there's some sort of orchestrated scare campaign when in fact only a small number need be concerned is...his usual bollocks.

Oh right so I have a tinfoil mask because the vast majority of deaths and cases are in people over 60 years of age.

And from what we are told ethnic people are more inclined to catch covid but Africa has not many cases or we are led to believe.

I don't believe the stats are cooked, but I really do believe that, in a number of cases, preexisting conditions that would probably have killed the afflicted in any case are all being chalked up to the virus. I also wonder who exactly is getting the virus? In almost a year of e-mails and phone conversations with friends and family, it's been very rare to find anyone who personally knows a victim.....primarily here and in the US. Rather strange.

My friend's housemate has it. Lots of people have it. You won't hear from the dead, because they're dead, and you won't hear much from the grieving, because they're grieving.

The statistics are not particularly helpful. A person with an underlying medical condition dying with Covid-19 might just be a person with a toothache dying in a train wreck. However, that doesn't change the fact that healthcare systems which were already operating on tight budgets could easily be overwhelmed by the rapid spread of a virus (this has happened before, and it was always going to happen again at some point). If those systems were allowed to collapse, a person without the virus might die from a burst appendix.

Sod that. I'm quite happy staying at home and insulting you idiots, and if they want me to take the vaccine, I'll take the vaccine. I still like toffees, though.

i know of 5 people who have died from covid. 2 well under 60 and 3 in their 60's, but all with underlying health conditions. diabetes, overweight, heart probs, asthmatic.

i know quite a few who have had covid , but their symptoms, although excedingly unpleasant, have been minor and they have recovered after a couple of weeks.

some reports say that those of a certain blood group have a strong response to the virus, i cant recall which blood group it is, and there are people with a specific genetic mutation that impacts the host immunity from covid, meaning that should they contract the virus, it will be severe.

either way, this is not a disease i want to contract and when i am offered the vaccination i will gladly take it.

i find chicos figure of only a few hundred under 60 actually dying of covid to be one of those cases where the stats are presented in such a way as to give a favourable conclusion.

Not long had a flu jab and am fuckin full of cold now. It doesnt kill all common flus either, the same way that covid jab won't kill all the new mutations.

My dad has his covid jabs in Jan. The proper flu jab knocked him about so will be interesting to see how he gets on.

That's right. Lots of people died from dementia during World War One. Mustard gas is relatively harmless. What's your point?
