I just got the boring white ones ... have to find the coloured ones next time.

    Food childhood memories for you?

Somewhere... somewhere out there.... there's a 'Chitty's Super-Trooper Homemade Tapas' thread missing a picture.

    Nice wee snack, mind.

At school we brought lunches, but once a month or so there was a big day.

Devon and tomato (ketchup) sauce sangers (sandwiches).

Must be devon/sauce/devon ... otherwise the sandwich gets soggy.

Maybe twice a week in the lunch-box

School lunch boxes? Everyone had school dinners in my time at school. I can't single out a single meal as being particularly good or bad. I do remember that bubble&squeak and mashed swede were favourite ingredients for food fights.

I can recall hospital food as a childhood memory...Lincoln pea soup being something I have never eaten again and looking forward to fish and chips on Fridays.

One of my earliest 'smell' memories is of mashed swede at my kindergarten - the revolting smell evokes nightmares of having it forced down my throat....

Mine too. Hot meals provided at every school I went to ... and you could get seconds or thirds if you wanted to (for the lunch box crowd, that's a second or third full plate of food after you'd finished the previous plate).

I always thought school dinners were good. I only have one negative memory of food from my school days and that was at nursery school, so under 5 years old. Shows what a good memory I have.

When I was in elementary we used to have ice cream socials at school. Something like this...

^ I used to love school dinners. We never used the word 'lunch' back then.

Chocolate sponge pudding with mint custard used to be a favourite.

For outings my sandwiches of choice were grated cheese with tomato ketchup or corned beef with tomato ketchup.

Swede is the one food I refused to eat as a child.

I grew up in a Greek household where food was a " religious affair" and anything "non Greek" was looked at by my parents as "Sub standard" , so when I went to High school, I discovered the " Cafeteria ", now that I think about it, I don't know why we call it that. since there was no coffee served there, but they did serve Chilly Dogs, which I now realise are a gateway drug , especially since across the street from Bayside High School in Queens NY was a park where a number of enterprising young man had established businesses selling Nickel bags and whatever else you might want,.Back then a Nickel bag ($5.00) would wield enough joints to keep you stoned for a while, and consuming your fair share of Heavenly Chilly dogs.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Nearly 50 years later and I still get fucked up by this. Yup. It was school dinners.

The number of times I get corrected to "you mean lunch" is irksome.

Let's include kitchen wares in this thread

Anyone born before the 1990's will remember these. In N.America anyway. Not sure if they were around in Europe
