A man who rode a jet ski across the Irish Sea from Scotland to the
Isle of Man has been jailed for breaching COVID-19 laws.
Dale McLaughlan, 28, spent four and a half hours riding the watercraft, which he had never ridden before, from
Scotland's Isle of Whithorn to Ramsey, at Isle of Man, on Friday.
The Scottish man, from North Ayrshire, travelled the 40km journey to visit his girlfriend, who he met on a night out in September.
Under the Isle of Man's
COVID-19 laws, non-residents can't enter the island without special permission.
McLaughlan was previously granted permission to work as a roofer at the island for four weeks after isolating for 14 days, which is when he met his partner.
But subsequent applications to return had been rejected.
