    Motorcycle Death In Thailand.

    Hello,

Some will remember me. Some certainly do as they have been sending "reds" since I left.

I have a serious question and need help. please. A family in South Wales knew of my connections with Thailand and asked if I could assist them by confirming the death of a relative during the last ten years. All they know is that the deceased's widow sent a message to the UK saying he was dead following a bike accident. I have searched and searched but can find nothing online. I will contact the Embassy on behalf of the family but it is likely that they will refuse to help me.

All I know is that he lived in Bangkok, taught English, and would be 60 years old if he was alive today. His name is/was Martin Shaw.

I realise that this a piss-taking forum, abuse is an art form here. Despite this I am making a genuine request for help. Any ideas of how this puzzle may be solved would be gratefully received.

I had intended emigrating to Thailand. Then there was Brexit and my pensions and capital suffered a 33% loss due to devaluation of the pound. So, I am stuck in the UK.

Please help. The family were at fault for not pursuing the matter when they were informed of his death. Now years later they need to know if he is alive or dead.

    Thank you

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately that website is down at present. Isn't it incredible that the "meatheads" chose to "red" me even though I had stopped posting? I had a reasonable reputation, lots of greens. It just goes to show how empty some people's lives are.

    Again, many thanks.

lengthy sojourns in the land of the chickenhead does tend to encourage the development of an empty life. I believe it is called "living the dream".

Why do they have reason to think he is not dead?

There is a reason. I am not at liberty to say what it is on the grounds of confidentiality. Thank you for paying attention and asking a very sensible question. Does anybody know him? Did he die? Last address was Bangkok. Not in the sticks.

Why not stick to the topic instead of making patronizing statements?

    can123,

There are people who can help, I can ask. They'll need to know a bit more than you have given us so far.

When a foreigner dies here the police must be informed. Then they should inform the embassy who will in turn contact the next of kin (if known.) If the next of kin heard nothing then there is no certainty about the death. The embassy should at least have a record.

The Welsh family should know some more details. If you are able to share, either here or pm, then I'll ask around.

    Full name
    Date of Birth
    Passport number (if known)
Last known contact addresses, home and school. If he died in an accident whilst working then someone at that school will remember.
Any other points of contact: telephone numbers, email addresses, FB and other social media.
When did the accident happen, where? If uncertain, then when was the family informed?
The wife's full details: name, dob, address, phone numbers, any employment, any social media accounts. Any known children?

Photographs: Martin, his wife, Thai family, from his wedding or from his school.

    Let me know.

I'm pretty sure that all birth and death certificates are publicly accessible, so the embassy should cooperate.

Yes, death records are mostly public records.

The most direct way to go about this would be for the closest next-of-kin in the UK to contact the FCO there and ask for assistance. Then the FCO will reach out to the British Embassy in Bangkok and be able to confirm whether or not the death is on their records.

Good luck, let us know the outcome. We need closure now, too.

I will be contacting the Foreign and Commonwealth Office early next week when the family have provided me with as much information as possible. I will draft the letter and send it in their names as the Embassy would rely on confidentiality to do nothing.

I suppose it's a fairly common name, but the name Martin Shaw rings a bell with me from somewhere - I'm not sure why. He's about my age, and also a teacher. Need to put my thinking hat on...

Update: I searched my emails and found that the person I was in contact with was called Martin Shore, not Shaw. So please carry on....
