    Crackling Christmas Carols

I am getting into Christmas a bit early this year as I was late off the mark last year and it felt rushed.

This year I am getting super-christmassy and I will be smearing myself with mince pies and rolling around in tinsel wearing Rudolph reindeer boxer shorts

So to set the mood I am seeking out the finest Christmas carols available to humanity.

I have previously mostly listened to traditional carols and golden oldie Christmas hits but this year I am exploring more contemporary interpretations

To kick off I am getting into this chunky and funky version of the classic Little Drummer Boy (originally adapted into English from the Czech Carol of the Drum) from Pentatonix

They do a cool version of the epic Carol of the Bells

But I also like this version by Cimorelli

    And a version from Libera

who also do a ripper version of the wonderful Walking in the Air

Ah fond memories of my days as a Catholic altar boy. The secret thrill of slipping into my little red dress and frilly white vestment and walking among the worshippers wafting the Christmas scented smoke from my thurible.

This was going to be the OP for the Christmas 2020 thread which I drafted early last week and was adding finishing touches to. I was battling my festive posting excitement in an attempt to wait until December 1st. But Noob90 has spoiled my best laid plans so I am making this a Christmas Carols thread instead.

Hey Noob having only joined up this month you have not accrued sufficient community credit to be starting 'The Christmas Thread' so please go and insert the wrong end of a large Norwegian fir tree in your festive farter with jingle bells attached.

^ That made me a little misty lom.

Love that song and a great rendition and it must have meant the world to her backing choir.

My contribution is Snoopy, a blast from my youth.

Loops, Little Drummer Boy - Pentatonix is a favorite.

A champion cringle jingle indeed Dave

They do a decent turn at the First Noel too

But it is a dead heat with the simmering Cimorelli sisters for which version is better

I am praying to St Nicholas that I accidentally fall into a bucket of Cimorellis over the course of the holiday

That is strictly between me and Aled. Altar boys honour and all that. What happens in the sacristy stays in the sacristy.

Here is a Christmas crackler to warm the cockles.

This family did the best crimbo decorations in the neighbourhood, including a gorgeous nativity scene, and got rewarded with this epic flashmob version of O Come All Ye Faithful

I am loving this Beach Boys Christmas album from 1964

    Crackling Christmas Carols-61rumj2hzfl-_sy400_-jpg

Mostly regular Christmas classics given the slighly spooky sounding Beach Boys harmonising treatment

They only did 1 proper carol on it - We Three Kings

It is so good I wish they had done another Christmas album of just carols.

^Pentatonix shorty girl is a proper little Christmas cracker innit

The Beach Boys Christmas angle crosses over with Pentatonix including their God Only Knows cover on their Christmas album and giving it a festive vid

It does sound quite jingly the way they do it

    ^Счастливого Рождества Mr Dave

I am loving this one by the ubiquitous Pentatonix

It has the spiritual texture of a carol but with a secular Christmas song theme

    Yes indeedy

I have not seen a partridge in a pear tree this year but I caught a turkey in mango tree today

Coont had managed to fly up (yes they can fly they just choose not to) and was strutting round the branches pecking at my dangling mangoes

Fortunately they were too firm and dangly and not soft and ripe so his pecks were just swinging them side to side and he gave up and dropped back to the ground where he belongs

I did get a chance to try out my catapult as seen on the Show Us Your Impulse Buy thread

    My marksmanship is improving

Anyway PTX have done a funky fresh revision of the partridge tree for this years crimbo album

Now, don't open this unless you can enjoy two 6yo's murdering Jingle Bells.

... and no, my Lassie is not one in the clip, she's the camera woman.

Not a carol per se, but a festive advert that's quite emotional.

    Good one Davo

It gets interesting when they start harmonising for Good King Wenceslas.

The one after that I actually did not know.

I had to google the lyrics 'one fine day I met upon the way' to find that it is apparently 'March of the Three Kings' by George Bizet

You don't expect to learn a completely new Crimbo carol from Thai lovelies on the BTS in the Big Mango!

Here it is done by the Mormon Fishing Tackle Choir
