Pope Francis urges followers to pray that AI and robots "always serve mankind"

The current Pope has got to be the most progressive in history, or at least quite close.

In his November message, "the pope said AI was 'at the heart of the epochal change we are experiencing' and that robotics had the power to change the world for the better. But this would only be the case if these forces are harnessed correctly, he said. 'Indeed, if technological progress increases inequalities, it is not true progress. Future advances should be orientated towards respecting the dignity of the person.'"

This is rather new territory, not only for SJWs, but also for Men of God.

Like all technology, it will be used to first serve the corporate class and then the left over crumbs will be presented to the working class, who actually design, build, maintain and service it.

I like Elon Musks position on AI. He does not think AI poses a threat by itself. But from people who misuse their possibilities. That's why he believes in kind of open source AI so nobody has a monopoly on it.

Bit presumptuous of the papal preacher to assume that humans are Gods ultimate project.

I do not believe this papal infallibility stuff about the pope having a Trump-style golden dog and bone on his desk that he can pick up and chew the Godster's ear.

For all we know AI is the teleological trajectory of the universe and humans are just a stepping stone.

With AI freed from the biological shackles of humanity the pace of learning and discovery can accelerate on an exponential path to the stars and beyond with the universe finally able to understand itself on its own terms and relegate biological evolution to a cosmological footnote.

"I think there for I am" what's the difference if the thinking is biological or digital?
but in the mean time , if there is to be a transition from one paradigm to another it will be incremental, and steps need to taken so that it is equitable.

I am an Atheist, but if there is to be a Catholics Church, then I am glad that Pope Francis is it's leader.

I am an atheist, and for the sake of children the world over, I think the Catholic Church should be burned to the ground and its leaders jailed for life.

Yea , but that's not going to happen, so If we are going to have a Church ,then I am glad that Pope Francis is it's leader.

Such stereotyping seems to be OK, whereas our newbie made a pedo comment and got his post deleted.

Not that I care much about the comments, but the Mods seem somewhat confused.

I'm not a big fan.. don't really like or agree with the AI statement. I think the pope is also discriminatory towards gays and contradictory in what he says.

They're all paedophile scum including the latest one, so fuck them.

The head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales has refused to resign over a damning report into child sex abuse allegations.
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster Diocese, said he recently offered his resignation to the Pope – only on account of his age and nothing else – but that he was told to stay in post.
It comes as the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) report into the Catholic Church, published on Tuesday, found Cardinal Nichols “seemingly put the reputation of the church” above his duty to sex assault victims.
It added that he had demonstrated “no acknowledgement of any personal responsibility to lead or influence change”.
Catholic leader won't resign despite 'damning' child sex abuse findings

I think you are confusing factual information about an organisation that has been proven to have perpetrated the worst kind of abuses against children for more than a century with someone making a random accusation against a fellow poster.
